Instructional LeadershipThis position has primary responsibility for providing leadership and direction in the areas of theory and laboratory activities of the specific instructional components relating to the students' educational goals. Instructors develop curriculum and materials that respond to the workplace competencies for employment as an outcome for students. The instructor is directly responsible to the Dean of Instruction. General responsibilities include academic instruction with students, advising students, planning, leadership and professional involvement including professional associations and community service.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) requiredAssociates or Bachelor's degree in a related field required, depending on the fieldMaster's Degree in the field or Master's Degree plus 18 graduate hours in the field for General Education Instructors2 years of work experience in the specific occupational fieldRequired knowledge in operation of related instructional equipmentDesire to teach students through the teaching-learning processKnowledgeable of the availability of teaching-learning resourcesGood oral/verbal communication skillsBasic computer knowledge/skills requiredEmployment is dependent on a pre-employment background screeningPhysical Requirements/Environmental ConditionsShop AreasMust be able to lift and handle 75 lbs., also able to push/pull up to 10-25 lbs. frequentlyMust be able to stand or walk for extended periods and frequently climb stairs, ladders, crouch, squat or crawlWill use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controlsPotential/frequent exposure to and use of chemical productsFrequent use of power toolsOccasionally work in extremely hot or extremely cold conditions, and movement between hot and cold environments occasionallyPossible stress due to deadlines and/or dealing with unpleasant or angry peopleGeneral EducationWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboardSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer workOccasional light to moderate lifting, less than 25 lbs.May require some travelIndoors, environmentally controlledAbility to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of timePossible stress due to deadlines and/or dealing with unpleasant or angry peopleJob DutiesEssential FunctionsRegular attendance and timelinessAware of legal responsibilities and limitations for self and studentsAssists in curriculum development and evaluationReviews and makes recommendations in the selection of textbooks and teaching aidsCounsels students and, when necessary, refers students to other resources for assistanceAssists in the recruitment of studentsParticipates in department faculty meetings as a memberOrganizes advisory committee meetings as an ex-officio memberKeeps the classrooms, shops and laboratories in orderAssists in planning annual budget requestsStrives to maintain good public relationsEnforces College policiesAssists with the evaluation of internship placementsPromotes student developmentMaintains student progress and recordsEvaluates student performanceMonitors the need for changing program specialization to ensure the curriculum is current and appropriateAccurately assesses student learning in a timely mannerReview relevant areas of the website and recommend changes to your supervisorDemonstrate a daily commitment to Fort Hays Tech | North Central's Mission, Vision, and ValuesOther duties as assigned by the President or his designeeCompensation172 Day PositionCompensation based on experienceSick & Personal LeaveEmployee, Spouse and Dependent Child Tuition Assistance ProgramMedical Benefits Package125 Benefit PackageKPERS
