Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Custodian

Location: Joel Barlow High School, Redding, CT

Date Available: Immediate

Hours: During training - Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

After training – Monday-Thursday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday, daytime hours with flexibility that Saturday hours may be changed as needed to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Anticipated Start Date: Immediate opening. Salary & Benefits: In accordance with support staff collective bargaining agreement. Starting salary $20.33/hour plus $2.00/hour shift differential. Comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

Reports To and Receives Instruction From: Head of School and/or the Lead Night Custodian

Job Responsibilities Include:

• Cleans and monitors designated spaces and equipment in the building, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping and waxing floors; rubbish removal
• Cleans and disinfects bathroom sinks, toilets and urinals, mirrors
• Check hand soap, paper towel, & tissue supplies
• Cleans classroom sinks/faucets
• Replaces light bulbs as needed
• Unlocks and locks premises, secures windows and activates/deactivates the alarm systems
• Cleans and maintains custodial equipment daily after each use
• Helps in unloading of freight as needed with delivery to specified areas
• Moves classroom furniture as needed

Physical Demands of Job:

• Frequent walking, bending, twisting and lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks
• Continuous use of hand strength to grasp tools and cleaning equipment and climb on ladders
• Push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and/or cleaning equipment
