Bridge Inspection Team Leader

Position Overview HDR is looking for an NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader to work as part of the Transportation Business Group in South Carolina. This position may be based out of any of our South Carolina offices: Charleston, Greenville, Columbia, or Fort Mill. The Bridge Inspection Team Leader will conduct the inspection and analyses of bridges throughout South Carolina, lead a team, perform initial, routine, in-depth, and fracture‑critical inspections, use various access techniques, plan and coordinate inspections, and develop inspection reports summarizing outcomes and condition assessments. Key Responsibilities Conduct inspection and analyses of bridges throughout South Carolina. Lead a team to complete initial, routine, in-depth, and fracture‑critical inspections for agencies and private owners. Use various access techniques to perform structural field inspections. Assist or lead team planning and coordination to complete inspections. Develop bridge inspection reports summarizing outcomes and condition assessments. Perform field inspections of in-service bridge, culvert structures, overhead signs, and metal traffic signal poles. Prepare detailed charts and technical reports documenting inspected infrastructure. Analyze live load rating of bridge and tunnel structures when desired. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (substitution of 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience allowed). Minimum of 3 years experience in bridge inspection. Proficiency with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook). Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Active participant in employee‑owned culture. Compliance with HDR Drug and Alcohol Policy; may require drug‑screening. No US employment sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Technical school or Associate degree. Relevant industry certifications. Ability to interpret construction schedules. 5 years of experience for Associate’s Degree holders; 2 years for Bachelor’s holders with EIT. Completed FHWA‑NHI Course Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges. Completed FHWA‑NHI Course Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques. Microsoft Office experience. Strong communication skills, self‑motivated, organized, flexible. Commitment to quality, accuracy, safety, and efficiency. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Willingness to travel and perform field work. Ability to work in challenging environments. Safety conscious, responsible for own and team safety. Use hand tools, ladders, tape measures, and other equipment for bridge evaluation. Quick learning of policy, procedures, and software. Commitment to employee‑owned culture.
