Job Title: Registered Nurse Manager – Pre-Admission Services & Animas Internal Medicine Clinic Job Summary: Provides leadership, supervision, and operational oversight for the Pre-Admission Services (PAS/PAT) Department and the Internal Medicine Clinic. Responsible for the coordination of clinical, operational, staffing, financial, and quality functions across both departments to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care delivery and positive patient outcomes. This position serves as a key member of the leadership team at Animas Surgical Hospital and collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and administrative leaders to support strategic growth, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and exceptional patient experiences. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage resources based on operational demand and patient care needs. This position fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and alignment with Animas Surgical Hospital's mission, vision, and core values. Reports to: Director of Patient Care Services Supervises: Pre-Admission Services Staff, Animas Internal Medicine Clinic Staff, and other designated personnel as assigned. Salary range (Exempt): $82,000-$145,000 (salary range is intentionally broad as pay will be determined based on qualifications, experience and eligibility for bonuses) Essential Job Functions/Objectives Leadership and Operations: 1. Provides day-to-day operational leadership and communication for Pre-Admission Services and Internal Medicine Clinic staff to ensure safe, timely, efficient, and high- quality patient care. 2. Oversees departmental workflows, staffing coordination, scheduling processes, patient throughput, and resource utilization across both departments. 3. Leads coordination with EMR vendor(s) to design and implement workflows supporting hospital outpatient (HOPD) models. 4. Oversees integration of new specialties under hospital structure, ensuring successful setup of providers, staff, space, and billing configurations. 5. Collaborates interdepartmentally and intradepartmentally to ensure organizational goals, patient care objectives, and operational priorities are achieved. 6. Serves as a liaison between physicians, providers, nursing staff, ancillary departments, leadership, outside vendors, and community partners. 7. Participates in strategic planning and operational development for outpatient services, pre-operative optimization, and care coordination initiatives. 8. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures, workflows, and best practices. 9. Leads department huddles, meetings, and educational initiatives while maintaining meeting documentation and follow-up. 10. Demonstrates flexibility by participating in staffing coverage when operationally necessary. 11. Assists with onboarding of physicians, advanced practice providers, and new staff related to clinic and pre-admission workflows. 12. Coordinates communication and collaboration with perioperative services, anesthesia, hospitalists, case management, laboratory, imaging, revenue cycle, and other stakeholders. 13. Supports implementation and sustainability of process improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient experience, operational efficiency, throughput, reimbursement, and quality outcomes. Staffing and Personnel Management: 1. Develops and manages department staffing plans, schedules, and staffing models based on operational demand, patient volumes, and organizational needs. 2. Oversees employee onboarding, orientation, competency validation, ongoing education, and professional development. 3. Conducts staff rounding and individual meetings with direct reports. 4. Completes employee evaluations, coaching, counseling, mentoring, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with Human Resources and leadership. 5. Promotes a collaborative team environment grounded in Animas Surgical Hospital’s mission, vision, and core values. 6. Establishes work priorities and assists staff in resolving operational and workflow barriers. 7. Reviews and approves payroll, timesheets, overtime, shift differential, and PTO requests in accordance with organizational policies. 8. Participates in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and retention activities. 9. Leads education and change management efforts during workflow redesigns, operational growth, and departmental integration. Clinical Oversight: 1. Oversees clinical workflows and nursing functions within Pre-Admission Services and the Internal Medicine Clinic. 2. Ensures nursing care and clinical operations align with evidence-based practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. 3. Supports care coordination for patients with acute and chronic health conditions, perioperative needs, and complex care coordination requirements. 4. Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary teams to support safe patient care transitions, pre-operative optimization, patient education, and continuity of care. 5. Assists staff with clinical decision-making, problem-solving, and escalation of patient care concerns. 6. Supports safe medication practices, documentation standards, infection prevention practices, and patient safety initiatives. 7. Ensures patient care is ethical, culturally congruent, patient-centered, and evidence-based. 8. Assists with implementation and oversight of quality improvement initiatives related to patient outcomes, patient experience, and operational metrics. Financial and Administrative Responsibilities 1. Oversees operational efficiency, productivity, and financial stewardship across both departments. 2. Identifies opportunities for cost savings, workflow optimization, and process improvement. 3. Supports accurate registration, scheduling, insurance verification, authorizations, referrals, charge capture, coding workflows, and reimbursement processes. 4. Collaborates with billing, coding, revenue cycle, and finance departments to improve financial performance and operational outcomes. 5. Conducts chart audits, workflow reviews, and operational assessments to support compliance, quality, and reimbursement integrity. 6. Monitors staffing productivity, overtime utilization, and resource allocation. 7. Assists with budget planning and operational forecasting. 8. Participates in organizational initiatives related to quality metrics, value-based care, and population health. Quality, Regulatory and Performance Improvement 1. Leads and participates in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives. 2. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, accreditation, and organizational regulations and standards. 3. Participates in investigations and resolution of patient, employee, safety, or operational events. 4. Utilizes operational, quality, and patient outcome data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. 5. Promotes continuous improvement and accountability within both departments. 6. Participates in hospital leadership meetings, committees, and educational activities as designated. 7. Ensures departments maintain readiness for regulatory surveys and audits. Additional Duties 1. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient care, personnel matters, and organizational operations in accordance with hospital policy. 4. Supports organizational growth, strategic initiatives, and operational excellence. 7. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Candidates who have completed an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program or Medical Assistant (MA) program with relevant clinical experience will also be considered. Certification, Licensure: Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred. Current Colorado Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Medical Assistant certification/registration accepted. Current BLS/CPR certification required. Additional certifications (ACLS, PALS, TNCC) preferred or required per departmental policy and role responsibilities. Experience, Training, Knowledge: Previous experience in pre-admission testing, ambulatory care, perioperative services, surgical services, primary care, internal medicine, or a related clinical setting preferred. Registered Nurse experience is preferred; however, experienced LPNs and Medical Assistants with demonstrated leadership, administrative, clinical assessment, patient education, care coordination, and electronic health record (EHR) experience are encouraged to apply. Physical Requirements: Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to fifty (50)+ pounds while administering care to patients, etc.; stooping, kneeling and/or crouching daily in delivery of patient care, drawing blood, administering EKG's, obtaining medications/equipment, etc.; standing and walking more than five (5) hours per day in administering patient care; running occasionally in responding to patient care emergencies. Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures: Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
