Job Description

The HPP Operator works in a refrigerated food and beverage production environment, operating filler machines that portion salsa and hummus into plastic containers. This role focuses on safe and efficient machine operation, adherence to food safety standards, and maintaining product quality through careful monitoring, basic troubleshooting, and accurate weight checks.

Responsibilities

• Operate filler machines that dispense salsa and hummus into plastic containers according to production requirements.
• Learn and follow the complete process of product filling, including setup, operation, and shutdown of equipment.
• Follow all SQF (Safe Quality Food) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies and procedures at all times.
• Report any food safety or product quality concerns immediately to quality personnel and/or management.
• Keep supplies neat, organized, and properly protected to maintain cleanliness and food safety standards.
• Perform wash-down and cleaning of machines following the changeover flow chart and sanitation procedures.
• Monitor fill levels on the machines and periodically check product weights, adjusting weights as needed to meet specifications.
• Ensure the correct cups and packaging materials are used for each customer according to product requirements.
• Maintain a sanitation bucket at all times and use it as required during production and cleaning activities.
• Perform basic troubleshooting on the machines, such as adjusting seals, adding cups, and replenishing lids.
• Use computer interfaces to navigate machine controls and production systems as part of daily operation.
• Conduct visual inspections of equipment and product to identify issues and maintain consistent quality.
• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously while tending to machines in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential Skills

• Experience tending to a machine and performing various tasks at once in a production or industrial environment.
• Basic troubleshooting skills, including adjusting seals, adding cups, and replenishing lids on production equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly during the shift.
• Comfort using a computer, including navigating applications and interfaces similar to those on smartphones or computers.
• Experience using a scale and understanding weight measurements, including adding and subtracting to achieve correct weights.
• Ability to operate machinery and perform routine machine operation tasks.
• Ability to conduct inspections and monitor equipment performance.
• Basic computer operation and navigation skills for machine controls and production systems.
• Capability to perform weight checks and make adjustments to maintain accurate fill levels.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Background in food and beverage production is helpful but candidates from other industrial or automotive environments are also suitable.
• Experience with industrial equipment such as filling machines or mixers is an advantage.
• Familiarity with equipment that runs on pneumatics and hydraulics, including working with valves and hoses.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working around automated machinery.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food and beverage production facility where salsa and hummus are made in refrigerated areas, so employees work in cold conditions for much of the shift. Team members fully suit up in appropriate personal protective equipment, including lab coat, hair net, beard net as needed, and rubber gloves when working in food areas, following strict hygiene and safety standards. Work involves operating filler machines and related industrial equipment, using computers and scales as part of daily tasks. Shifts are structured as 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with schedules running Monday through Friday and mandatory Saturdays, with potential work on Sundays depending on production needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.

The pay range for this position is $16.25 - $16.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Ferndale,MI.
