Position Type: Support Staff/ Dean’s Assistant Date Posted: 3/24/2026 Location: Prairie Hills Junior High School Job Description Title: Campus Monitor/Dean Assistant SY26/27 Location: Junior High School Employment Type: Full Time Work Days: 10-month position FSLA: Exempt Reports to: Building Principal Job Summary To promote and maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive environment for all students, staff, and visitors on school grounds. The Campus Monitor ensures that elementary students are supervised, guided, and supported throughout the day in a manner that encourages positive behavior, responsibility, and respect for others. Education, Certification, and Licensure High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children in a school or youth supervision setting preferred. Experience Prior experience working in a cross-categorical, self-contained, or inclusive special education environment preferred. Familiarity with individualized education programs (IEPs) and progress monitoring procedures. Experience assisting students with assistive technology, mobility supports, or augmentative communication devices desirable. Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD), or intellectual disabilities (ID) highly valued. Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities Supervise and monitor students in all non-classroom areas, including hallways, restrooms, playgrounds, lunchroom, bus areas, and school entrances/exits. Maintain a positive and visible presence throughout the school campus during student arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess periods. Assist administrators and staff in ensuring student safety and proper conduct during school hours and at school-sponsored events. Encourage appropriate student behavior by modeling respectful communication and reinforcing positive choices. Implement restorative practices and conflict resolution strategies to help students repair relationships and learn from behavioral mistakes. Deter and intervene in conflicts, unsafe behaviors, or emergencies in a calm, professional manner. Support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and school-wide expectations for conduct. Monitor visitors, volunteers, and vendors entering the school building to ensure compliance with district safety procedures. Report any unsafe conditions, unauthorized visitors, or concerning behavior to the school administration immediately. Supervise students during assemblies, field trips, after-school activities, and dismissal times as assigned. Assist students in following the school's dress code, ID compliance, hallway passes, and lunchroom expectations. Maintain confidentiality of student information and uphold all district policies regarding student privacy. Participate in staff meetings, safety drills, and professional development related to school climate, safety, and student support. Promote a caring, inclusive, and supportive campus culture where students feel safe, respected, and valued. Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or designee. Skills and Abilities Build trusting, positive relationships with children and maintain a supportive yet firm presence. Supervise large groups of young students with patience, consistency, and attention to safety. Communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, and parents. Remain calm, focused, and professional during conflicts or stressful situations. Work independently and make appropriate decisions following district policies and safety guidelines. Anticipate and prevent potential safety issues or behavioral concerns before they escalated. Promote and model respectful, inclusive behavior among all students. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethical conduct in all interactions. Pass a satisfactory criminal background check as required by law. Basic school safety protocols and emergency procedures. De-escalation techniques and conflict resolution methods. Proper radio communication and reporting procedures. Basic record keeping and school documentation requirements. Proper English usage, grammar, and communication skills. Terms of Employment Salary is based on market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent and Board of Education. Twelve-month work year. Salary range: $20.79 - $22.13 Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms. The schedule follows the district academic calendar, with occasional evening or after-school meetings as required. Adheres to district safety policies and confidentiality guidelines.
