NICU Occupational Therapist

The George Washington University Hospital's Medical-Surgical Rehabilitation Department is seeking an experienced NICU Occupational Therapist to join our NICU rehab team part-time in order to support the therapy needs of our smallest patients. GW Hospital is a 385 bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Academic Medical Center, and Comprehensive Stroke Center with an 18 bed Level III B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), located in the heart of Washington, DC. GW offers clinical expertise and world-class care in a variety of areas including cardiac, cancer, neuroscience, critical care, trauma, women's health, organ and tissue transplant, and advanced surgical techniques. Our rehab professionals work at the top of their license alongside other healthcare professionals to enhance patients' functional recovery and self-actualization, provide consultative services, make recommendations, and elevate patient care through unit and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and true interdisciplinary care.

Position Summary

  • Perform detailed assessments of newborns' neuromotor, sensory, and developmental needs in the NICU.
  • Create and implement individualized therapy plans that support the infant's motor development and sensory processing.
  • Work in close coordination with NICU nurses, physicians, speech language pathologists and other professionals to provide comprehensive care for infants.
  • Offer guidance and education to parents and caregivers on proper positioning and developmental support to continue care at home.

This position is 24 hours (three 8-hour shifts) per week with one required weekend shift per month. Relocation bonus available (if applicable)

Qualifications

  • Job Requirements:
    • Master's or Doctorate degree in Occupational therapy
    • Experience in a NICU setting required
    • CNT preferred
    • Must have DC License before start of employment
    • Current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals by AHA or Red Cross
  • Skills:
    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Effective interpersonal skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities
