Inventory Control Specialist

Job Description Position Overview: The Inventory Control Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the accuracy of all inventory located at the Tropicale Ontario facility. They will work directly with the warehouse, procurement, production, and accounting to deliver accurate and timely inventory account updates. This role will provide direction to the Inventory Control Specialists on the off shifts. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor all key functions related to inventory transactions to assure that they are accurate and timely. Monitors and measures receiving and warehouse performance for accuracy and timeliness of receiving reporting, movement and storage of material, and outbound transfers. Coordinate a cycle count program in a perpetual inventory environment. Coordinate the cycle count progress and results to identify necessary recounts and processes to be monitored and provide regular reporting on the results. Perform thorough research and document inventory discrepancies using all available resources to identify root causes and supply possible solutions. Work with key personnel to effectively implement process improvements to operational procedures to proactively optimize overall location and item level accuracy. Troubleshoot all special order problems at the time of receipt. Ensure receiving reports accurately report material received. Resolve discrepancies with accounting regarding packing slips, and receiver reports. Oversee the movement of material from receiving to the warehouse in an efficient, effective and safe manner. Become a Subject Matter Expert for Deacom WMS software system, creating and following SOPs as needed to ensure consistent training and methodology. Work directly with Quality to ensure inventory and practices meet SQF requirements. Experience and Skills Requirements Strong written and verbal communication skills Solid math skills and measurements are essential Knowledge of computerized equipment Solid Microsoft Office - Excel & Word Proficient in operating forklifts & other material handling equipment Ability to solve problems by gathering information and evaluating options Make effective decisions by analyzing information and considering priorities Coordinate communications and activities among multiple groups Handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment Cooperate with others and coordinate work assignments to achieve team goals Exceptional leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills Move merchandise, trucks and trailers when needed Communicate effectively with staff and customers Work well under pressure Priority setting and decision making Enter shipment information into systems, tools and database Work in cold/freezer environment (-20 degrees) Responsible, dependable, conscientious, alert, and safety minded Work overtime and weekends as needed Excellent attendance and safety record Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus Able to meet physical demands in the work environment as generally described below Education and/or Experience Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business Administration/Logistics recommended Minimum 5 years of working experience in similar field (Food Industry a plus) Forklift license required Demonstrates success in a fast‑paced work environment Food Safety & Quality Requirements Adheres to all Food Safety/Quality SOPs Accurately completes required Food Safety & Quality records Communicates any known or suspected Food Safety/Quality issues to the Q.A. Manager and Department Manager Mentor staff for implementation of food safety and quality procedures Attend all Food Safety/Quality meetings to develop quality and safety procedures Physical Requirements Communicates orally with employees, management, peers, vendors, suppliers, governmental compliance agencies, the general public, and customers by telephone, e‑mail, group or one‑on‑one settings Uses a telephone, fax, and computer for communications Regularly stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during work shift Uses hands, speech, and hearing Uses hands, arms, and legs to reach, use tools or controls, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch Lifts 25‑50 lbs Vision requirements in close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed Sits and operates computer for extended periods, proficiently using keyboard for typing Noise level is typically low to moderate Exposed to cold temperatures (-20°) at times Disclaimer This position description indicates the general nature and level of work expected.
