Lead Substation Engineer

Job Overview Due to company growth, we are actively seeking an experienced Substation Design Engineer to join our team to perform and execute substation design projects. Responsibilities and Duties Lead the design and engineering of high voltage substations (up to 500kV), including physical layout, protection & control, grounding, and equipment specifications Serve as the technical authority for substation engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality Oversee and mentor a team of engineers and designers; provide technical guidance and review work products Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and technical requirements Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, bill of materials, and technical documentation Support field activities, including site assessments, commissioning support, and issue resolution Ensure compliance with industry standards (NESC, IEEE, NEC), utility requirements, and company engineering practices Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource planning for assigned engineering tasks Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and standards Qualifications and Required Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited university 7+ Years of professional experience within substation design for electrical utilities EIT certification or PE license preferred Experience with protective relaying and/or P&C design is a plus Familiarity with substation grounding and lightning protection Past project experience working with large utilities Proven experience in Substation Design should include: general arrangement, electrical equipment, plans, elevation and section views, station cable trays, conduit fill calcs, rigid bus calcs, grounding and conduit layouts Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Experience working with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, & CDEGS/WinIGS preferred Salary Range $130,000-165,000/year Equal Opportunity Employer K & A Engineering Consulting is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) including disability/ vets.
