Mechanical Technician I

CTG's long-standing Fortune 500 client of over 15 years has a W2 contract assignment for a hands-on Mechanical Technician I to support research, machine build, and laboratory operations. This role combines mechanical assembly, parts procurement, inventory management, and lab support responsibilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently in a shop, laboratory, and manufacturing environment.

Location: Wilmington, NC

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Wilmington, NC

Pay Rate: Based on experience

Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Technical Certificate or Associate Degree in a mechanical or manufacturing-related discipline preferred. Equivalent experience of 4+ years may be considered in lieu of an Associate Degree.

Key Responsibilities

• Source mechanical components and obtain vendor quotes

• Coordinate purchasing activities and track open orders

• Receive, inspect, and organize incoming parts and materials

• Stage hardware and components for machine builds

• Assemble machines and subassemblies using engineering drawings and procedures

• Read and interpret mechanical and assembly drawings

• Support laboratory organization, inventory control, and equipment maintenance

• Communicate effectively with vendors, purchasing teams, engineers, and internal stakeholders

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and assembly drawings

• Experience using common mechanical hand tools, hardware, and fasteners

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

• Effective verbal and written communication skills

• Proficiency with basic computer applications including email and spreadsheets

• Comfortable working in a hands-on laboratory and shop environment

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, and bending

Preferred Skills

• Ability to read electrical schematics and perform basic low-voltage wiring

• Experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software

• Prior procurement, vendor management, or supply chain experience

• Experience supporting prototype, research, development, or manufacturing environments
