Education

Candidates should hold an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with clinical training covering neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient testing. Alternatively, completion of a 50-week official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures course with experience as a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) is acceptable. Certification or eligibility for certification as MLT (ASCP) or MLT (NCA) is required.

Experience and Skills

Applicants must demonstrate clinical proficiency in specimen testing across all age groups. Strong decision-making abilities, teamwork skills, and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts under pressure are essential. Effective communication skills, including verbal, written, and electronic methods, are necessary to interact with laboratory information systems and colleagues.

Physical and Mental Requirements

The role involves light lifting (up to 25 pounds), manual dexterity, and the ability to perform tasks requiring near visual acuity and color discrimination. Candidates should be comfortable working in environments with potential exposure to infectious materials.
