Director of Data

Role Description

We're hiring a Director of Data to make data the indisputable engine of our results and market differentiation. This is a hands-on, cross-functional leadership role for someone who has done this work before in the CPG-retail world and built data teams that drive business outcomes.

• Own the customer-facing analytics that make our platform more valuable.
• Partner closely with Product, Operations, and GTM teams.
• Lead a small team of analysts with the opportunity to grow the team.
• Bring an expert, outside-in point of view on CPG and retail data practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive Differentiation & Platform Value:
  • Partner with the VP of Product on the data strategy.
  • Equip Operations with data and intelligence for best-in-class liquidation strategies.
  • Identify and develop the commercial value of our data.
  • Shape product opportunities and customer-facing intelligence.
  • Evaluate strategic data partnerships and technical investments.
• Power Better Decisions Across the Business:
  • Define and maintain marketplace liquidity metrics.
  • Strengthen and scale data and AI/ML usage in everyday decisions.
  • Partner across the leadership team using data and AI.
  • Contribute to external thought leadership.
• Build the Team & Foundations:
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team with a culture of ownership.
  • Partner with Engineering and senior leadership to ensure data quality.

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years in analytics or data science, with 3+ years leading data teams.
• Direct experience with CPG and/or retail data.
• Experience differentiators: category management, pricing optimization, demand planning, applied AI/ML, supply chain management, auction theory, retail media.
• Track record of shipping customer-facing data products that drive measurable value.
• Commercial instinct for where data creates business value.
• Hands-on comfort with SQL and the modern data stack.
• Expertise to coach and collaborate with data team members across the stack.
• Power user of AI with insight on its impact within retail and CPG.
• Track record of hiring and developing strong analysts.
• Cross-functional credibility with Product, Engineering, GTM, and senior leadership.
• Operates with a bias for action and communicates data clearly.
