Sr. Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a Sr. Payroll Specialist to join a large organization with operations in the United States. This remote, 4+ month contract opportunity will support high-volume U.S. corporate payroll processing for approximately 15,000 employees across multiple payroll cycles. Candidates must reside within the Eastern or Central Time Zone and have hands-on Workday Payroll experience.

This is a fully remote position requiring availability during Eastern or Central Time Zone business hours. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Essential Duties:

• Process high-volume payroll in Workday across weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly cycles.
• Audit payroll records for discrepancies involving time, benefits, deductions, compensation, and tax information.
• Ensure accurate federal, state, and local payroll tax calculations and remittances.
• Coordinate with HR and Finance on hires, terminations, job changes, and leave-related payroll updates.
• Reconcile payroll accounts with general ledger activity and bank statements.
• Resolve employee payroll inquiries, pay discrepancies, stop payments, reissues, and corrections.
• Support year-end processing, payroll audits, compliance activities, and continuous Workday process improvements.

Qualifications:

23+ years of corporate payroll processing experience; high-volume, multi-state payroll experience preferred.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll and Workday Time Tracking required.

Experience processing payroll for hourly, salaried, and union employees preferred.

Previous ADP experience is a plus.

Skills and Job-Specific Competencies:

Strong knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws and payroll tax regulations.

Proficiency with Workday Payroll and Workday Time Tracking.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidential payroll information.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Travel Requirements:

No travel will be required, unless at the client's discretion.

Salary Range:

SolomonEdwards values your unique and individual experience and background. As such, we take a comprehensive approach when determining compensation for our roles. The compensation for this specific role is based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to education, licensure and certifications, location, experience, and training. A reasonable estimate for the current hourly range for this role is $33 35.
