The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is one of the nation’s leading national racial justice legal organizations. Formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy, the Lawyers’ Committee uses legal advocacy to achieve racial justice, fighting inside and outside the courts to ensure that Black people and other people of color have the voice, opportunity, and power to make the promises of our democracy real. Job Title : Fall Undergraduate Intern Location : Washington, DC Job Type : Part Time Term : September 21st, 2026 – December 4th, 2026 About the Role The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law offers both legal and non-legal internships to support our work to achieve racial justice. Our interns contribute to projects that make impactful change and provide the intern with professional and personal development. The Lawyers’ Committee’s full-time staff is based in Washington, DC and is divided into several departments including: Executive Office, Election Protection, Communications, Human Resources, Operations and Information Technology. All interns will receive a $500 stipend. Internships will be part-time (10 hours per week) depending on class schedule. Interns are given meaningful projects that expand their skill set and allow opportunities for growth. Our goal is for interns to gain relevant and valuable experience that helps them in their academic and professional careers. Our interns gain positive working relationships and mentors they can carry throughout their career. Interns have the option to help our program offices which includes: Executive Office, Communications, Human Resources, Operations and Information Technology. Fall internswith a full course loadmust work between 10 to 15 hours a week during the fall semester, and 20 hours without a full course load. Students can commute into the Lawyers’ Committee office or work remotely. Fall interns typically attend colleges and universities in or around the metropolitan District of Columbia region, although the Lawyers’ Committee is also happy to host students participating in externship or academic exchange programs. What You’ll be Doing: Non-Legal interns need to be currently enrolled in a college or university. Ideal candidates have strong administrative and project management skills and must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). A passion for civil rights is necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of an intern. The day to day for interns can vary based on department, but you can expect: Conducting research on assigned topics or projects. Assist in gathering information for reports and presentations. Provide general administrative support such as filing, photocopying and organizing documents. Scheduling meetings and appointments. Assist in the planning and executing of projects. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders. Collaborate with team members on cross-functional initiatives. Application Process: Please apply directly on our website.
