The Transitions Specialist provides administrative and customer-support services for Soldiers and their families completing retirement, separation, discharge, or transition from active duty to civilian life, the U.S. Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. The position manages pre-transition, transition, and post-transition personnel actions; coordinates required documentation and briefings; and supports retiree services in accordance with applicable Army regulations, Human Resources Command directives, and local installation guidance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transition and Separation Processing

• Provide administrative support to personnel transitioning from active duty to civilian life, the U.S. Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard.
• Review, process, track, and finalize retirement, separation, and discharge applications and associated personnel actions.
• Conduct pre-transition processing, including eligibility verification, application review, records updates, transition interviews, required briefings, and document preparation.
• Review and update Officer and Enlisted records briefs and other required personnel records for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare DD Form 214, Certificate of Uniformed Service, and associated transition documentation in accordance with governing guidance.
• Process separation documentation within established service standards, including completing a high percentage of actions within five business days of receipt.
• Conduct final transition-out processing; finalize transition documents; issue installation clearance documentation; and ensure documents are provided to the Soldier and, when applicable, the spouse on the final date of transition.
• Complete post-transition actions, including records management, filing, and closeout requirements
• Perform Retirement Services Officer functions in conjunction with transition processing, providing retiring Soldiers and their families accurate, timely information on retirement benefits, entitlements, regulatory changes, and available support resources.
• Provide or coordinate Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) counseling and briefings for retiring service members and their families; ensure counseling is current, accurate, and delivered by personnel meeting applicable training and certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience in military human resources, personnel administration, retirement services, transition services, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of the Integrated Personnel and Pay System–Army (IPPS-A), including the ability to review personnel data, process and track applicable transition, retirement, and separation actions, and maintain accurate personnel records within authorized systems.
• Knowledge of Army personnel records, retirement and separation processing, military benefits, and customer-service practices.
• Ability to interpret and apply applicable Army regulations, Human Resources Command directives, and local procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases, suspense dates, customer inquiries, and sensitive records.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with standard office software and authorized personnel systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience preparing DD Form 214s, transition packets, retirement and separation orders, and installation-clearance documentation.
• Retirement Services Officer and Survivor Benefit Plan Counselor certification, or ability to obtain required certifications within 120 days of employment.
