Executive Director, Health IT Operations

Executive Director, Health IT Operations UCSF Health – full time, based in San Francisco, CA (Mission Center Building). Responsible for aligning Health IT strategies with UCSF Health’s mission, overseeing governance structures, managing the IT portfolio, leading the Health IT Project Management Office (PMO), driving major IT restructuring and portfolio initiatives, partnering on the campus IT operating model, ensuring effective communication across teams, championing continuous improvement, and developing the professional growth of Health IT staff. Key Responsibilities Lead the Health IT PMO and portfolio management function. Direct the major IT restructuring program, consolidating IT across UCSF Health. Collaborate with the Campus IT Operating Model Program Executive on migration to the new operating model. Partner with the Enterprise Portfolio Manager to develop portfolio tools and align to enterprise objectives. Establish governance structures for IT prioritization and decision‑making. Oversee governance programs to ensure productivity and interconnectivity. Assist the CIO with materials for SET, CEO Council, and executive forums. Integrate the Health technology roadmap with campus‑focused IT leaders. Coordinate and oversee the IT portfolio of projects in alignment with the executive team’s priorities. Oversee professional development, training, and skill development for IT staff. Collaborate with HR partners on staff trends, retention, recruitment, and diversity. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training. 10+ years in healthcare delivery (academic health systems) and 10+ years managing/leading IT organizations. Expert knowledge of clinical applications concepts, policies, and practices. Experience developing and implementing long‑term strategic plans, evaluating staff competencies, organizing operations, and fiscal management. Exceptional leadership, problem‑solving, teamwork, and negotiation skills. Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and decision‑making abilities. Collaboration and influence skills with senior management across the organization. Advanced communication skills, clear writing, and stakeholder engagement. Advanced knowledge of healthcare medical terminology, clinical practices, and clinical information systems. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree. Experience negotiating large multi‑year contracts and developing vendor relationships. Understanding of UC procurement policies. Ability to work across multiple locations in the health system.
