Refrigeration Technician (Food Service Equipment Mechanic) Location: Petersburg, Virginia (Fort Lee) Type: Non‑Exempt Work Schedule: Full‑time, Day Shift Compensation: $42.94/hour Benefits Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) retirement plan Life & Short‑Term Disability Insurance Health and Welfare Benefit Flexible Spending Accounts for medical and dependent care 11 paid federal holidays, accrual of 10 paid days vacation at start of employment, paid sick leave Potential shared earning bonus Tuition assistance after 1 year, potential scholarships for qualified dependents Professional development, certifications, training opportunities Verizon wireless discount Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and wellness program Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility for full‑time employees Responsibilities Install, perform preventive maintenance, and repair a wide variety of commercial kitchen equipment (walk‑in refrigerators, freezers, cold bars, dishwashers, conveyors, food disposers, ovens, ranges, deep fryers, grills, steamers, kettles, mixers, etc.) Add or remove refrigerant fluids; start system, observe operation; read gauges and instruments; adjust valves, controls, pumps to control fluid level, pressure and temperature. Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components; replace or adjust defective or worn parts to repair systems. Perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance; calibrate equipment when necessary. Utilize hand tools, test equipment, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s specification manuals. Examine appliances during operating cycle to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, loose parts; disassemble appliances to examine mechanical and electrical parts; trace circuits to locate shorts and grounds; adjust contact points; clean parts. Replace worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, wiring; repair and adjust motors; reassemble appliance; adjust pulleys; lubricate moving parts. Test water pressure and locate leaks. Prepare and maintain related reports, records, requisitions; assist inventory of equipment, tools and parts; maintain proper handling, maintenance, use and accountability of all equipment, tools and parts. Adhere to all safety standards; maintain professionalism in appearance and demeanor. Qualifications Journey or Master level HVACR required. At least 5 years of related experience and/or training in maintenance and repair of commercial kitchen equipment, including refrigeration equipment. Valid State Driver’s license; real‑ID compliant license or acceptable alternative. Ability to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances; background checks will be conducted. Excellent communication skills; can read, write, comprehend written and oral instructions. Ability to multi‑task on computer‑based programs during interruptions. Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; repetitive motion, reaching, kneeling, walking, standing or sitting for several hours; climbing in/out of vehicle; up/down stairs. Perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods.
