Shelter Manager Position

Position Overview

The Shelter Manager provides leadership for daily family shelter operations, ensuring a safe, trauma-informed environment. This role involves supervising staff, maintaining compliance, and supporting families experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily shelter operations, safety, and compliance
Supervise, schedule, and support shelter staff
Ensure accurate documentation and HMIS reporting
Manage intake, orientation, and resident support
Coordinate maintenance, supplies, and facility needs
Respond to emergencies and on-site incidents

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
3+ years in shelter, residential, or crisis services
Supervisory experience required
Strong leadership and communication skills
Knowledge of trauma-informed care
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data systems
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends/on -call
Bilingual preferred

Starting Salary - $48,000-$53,000

Mercy House serves the City of Harrisonburg, and provides services to clients within Rockingham, Augusta, and Page Counties.
