POSITION TITLE

1850 CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION PATHWAY SPECIALIST 11 MONTH

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Position is responsible for supplementing and supporting the Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Career Pathways initiatives of the middle and high schools. Position is responsible for coaching, supporting, and guiding secondary teachers in authentic problem based and best practices in CTE. Position conducts professional development, and performs classroom visitations, provides instructional feedback, demonstrates instructional techniques and assists with the development of the curriculum and reviews data for program improvement. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, work requires reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with Visiting schools and observing classrooms to ensure successful instructional implementation and recommends effective instructional strategies: includes classroom visits, observing CTE instruction, planning for instruction, modeling or co‑teaching, consulting, reflection, and supportive and specific feedback to teachers as needed Analyzes and interprets industry certification and performance data; and works with CTE teachers/administrative staff to design activities to raise student achievement Assists with developing the CTE curriculum and assessment program in partnership with the CTE Department to support Career Pathway initiatives. Collaborates with the CTE Department and building administrators to address areas of greatest need; including development of curriculum, updating existing curriculum, and effectively incorporating career and technical education competencies in the content areas. Supports the work of CTE content teams by facilitating career cluster team meetings and responding to career cluster team meeting records as needed. Participates in staff development and professional learning conferences related to CTE to enhance and maintain knowledge of content, instructional strategies, special education, coaching practices, and current best practices in Career and Technical Education instruction. Responsible for data collection and reporting of CTE Completer and Career Pathway activities; collects student demographic data and submits required reports to the State Department; Identifies students in all categories of special populations in career and technical education who are in need of resource assistance; Provides a communication link between career and technical education, special education, and English Language Learner (ELL) departments; collaborates with Special Education Supervisors to obtain accommodations for high school students taking industry credentialing exams Assesses the need for and assists in scheduling the career and technical education teacher assistants for the most efficient use in schools; Serves as a member of various boards, committees and advisory councils; Performs other related tasks and duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, methods and techniques used in the special education process for vocational assessment; thorough knowledge of federal and state mandates and local procedures and regulations relating to vocational assessment programs; ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and vocational staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must possess a Master’s degree, a Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in Career & Technical Education and 5 years teaching experience that includes experience in Career & Technical Education. (Virginia License in administration and supervision preferred). Must possess demonstrated evidence of involvement in school activities and committees involving leadership responsibilities beyond those required in the classroom. Must possess an in-depth knowledge of career & technical education curriculum, Carl D. Perkins Act, instructional best practices, and adult learning theory. Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and the ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, community, students and others.
