Precision Steel Services

Job Description

Job Description

Data Specialist – Manufacturing Order & Quote Processing

Precision Steel Services — Toledo, OH

Precision Steel Services has supplied steel across the Midwest since 1974. We are looking for a Data Specialist to help turn customer requests into accurate, complete information that our estimating and production teams can act on.

Every job starts with information.

As a Data Specialist, you will review customer requests, purchase orders, drawings, revisions, specifications, and supporting documents, then enter the correct information into our ERP system.

Depending on your assignment, you may support quote processing, order processing, or both. In either case, your job is to take raw customer information and turn it into clear, actionable instructions for the rest of the company.

This is not basic copy-and-paste data entry. It requires judgment, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work quickly without allowing errors or incomplete information to move downstream.

Pay, Schedule & Growth Opportunity

Starting Pay: $19.00/hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

This is a fully on-site position. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

90-Day Performance Review

Your pay and responsibility can grow as you demonstrate accuracy, pace, judgment, problem-solving ability, and consistency.

Progression is earned through proven capability, not just time in the role.

Benefits
  • Direct hire position
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off starting at 90 days
  • Life insurance
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Cross-training opportunities
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Stable, full-time work
What You’ll Do
  • Review customer requests, purchase orders, emails, drawings, prints, revisions, and supporting documents
  • Enter quote or order information accurately into the ERP system
  • Capture material requirements, dimensions, quantities, processing instructions, and customer expectations
  • Translate customer information into clear instructions that estimating, production, and operations can use
  • Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear information before it creates an error
  • Ask questions and escalate issues rather than making assumptions
  • Process revisions accurately and prevent outdated information from moving forward
  • Review your work for completeness and accuracy before releasing it
  • Manage multiple requests, deadlines, and priorities throughout the day
  • Maintain organized electronic records, folders, and supporting documentation
  • Communicate with estimating, sales, operations, production, and other team members
  • Help teammates when workloads spike or priorities change
  • Support process improvements that reduce errors, confusion, and repeat work
What We Expect
  • You move quickly without sacrificing accuracy
  • You can maintain focus while entering and reviewing a high volume of information
  • You ask questions early when something is unclear
  • You do not allow incomplete or questionable information to move downstream
  • You can manage competing priorities without becoming disorganized
  • You remain steady when the workload increases
  • You take ownership of mistakes, correct them, and learn from them
  • You communicate clearly and professionally
  • You work cooperatively with others and help the team maintain flow
  • You show up reliably and are ready to work your scheduled on-site hours
  • You look for ways to improve the process instead of simply working around recurring problems
Required Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience in an on-site data entry, order processing, administrative processing, or similar office-based role
  • Experience manually entering and reviewing a meaningful volume of information as a regular part of the job
  • At least 1 year of experience working cooperatively in a team-based office environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Comfortable using computers, keyboards, email, and standard office software throughout the workday
  • Ability to learn ERP systems and internal processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work the required on-site schedule
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using an ERP, order-management, estimating, CRM, or production-management system
  • Manufacturing, industrial, steel, fabrication, or production-support experience
  • Experience entering customer orders, purchase orders, quotes, specifications, or job requirements
  • Experience working with production quotas, volume expectations, or daily processing targets
  • Experience reading blueprints, shop drawings, technical documents, or customer specifications
  • CAD, mechanical, machining, fabrication, or other technical experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, or other Microsoft 365 applications
  • Inside sales, customer service, estimating-support, or order-entry experience
What Winning Looks Like
  • Customer requests are entered accurately the first time
  • Quotes and orders move forward without preventable corrections or repeated follow-up
  • Missing or conflicting information is caught before it reaches estimating or production
  • Revisions are processed cleanly without outdated instructions remaining in the system
  • Backlogs and priorities remain visible, organized, and manageable
  • Teammates can trust the accuracy and completeness of your work
  • Estimating stays focused on quoting instead of correcting preventable entry errors
  • Production receives clear instructions with minimal clarification required
  • You maintain both quality and pace when the workload increases
