Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

Provides exceptional patient care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other physicians to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care within scope of practice standards and specialty specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise. Responsibilities Implement accurate, safe, patient‑centric anesthetic care. Understand physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures, constantly monitor vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines. Ensure appropriate documentation within hospital and regulatory requirements and protect information of all forms from unauthorized disclosure. Demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care. Continuously engage in projects that maintain and advance professional competency. Qualifications Education Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist: Completion of a Certified Nurse Anesthetist Training Program, Graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs. Current State of Connecticut Nursing License, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the State of Connecticut. Experience Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line recommended, but none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice is required, with reference letters from physicians and other practitioners obtained during the Medical Staff appointment process. Licensure Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (AANA Certification), State of CT RN and APRN License, ACLS DEA Registration and State of CT Controlled Substance Registration. Special Skills CRNAs must have sharp concentration and focus, ability to stay calm under stressful conditions, communicate clearly with surgeons and the surgical support team, and with patients and families. A calm and reassuring manner is essential to inspire trust. Anesthetic patient management must be immediate and responsive. Flexibility and adaptability are required. Physical Demand CRNA must demonstrate intellectual‑conceptual, integrative, and quantitative abilities, with skills in observation, communication, motor functions, and mature behavioral and social attributes. Must detect and interpret changes in monitoring alarms and equipment; functional vision, hearing, and tactile sensation must be adequate. Must communicate effectively, including speech, reading, and writing. Must have sufficient motor function to elicit pertinent information, stand for long periods, wear lead during fluoroscopy or X‑Ray cases, lift 25 pounds, reach above and below shoulder height, and navigate patient care environments.
