Coordinator, Designated Interpreter Services

Class Description The purpose of this position is primarily to perform professionallevel support in coordinating designated interpreting services.Additionally, this position will also provide professional signlanguage interpreting services for deaf faculty and staff as wellas mentor novice and professional interpreters, supervisedesignated interpreting staff, and support interpreter workforcedevelopment initiatives for the College. The position exercisesindependent judgment in scheduling, coordination, training, andprogram support activities in addition to providing interpretingservices. This position will be located on our Essex and Catonsvillecampuses. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in ASL, Deaf Studies, interpreting or relatedfield required. National Certification through the Registry ofInterpreters for the Deaf (or equivalent) and a minimum of three(3) years’ experience working as a professional sign languageinterpreter required. Experience mentoring interpreters, coordinating interpretingservices, supervising personnel, or providing interpreter educationpreferred. Position requires flexible work schedule including day,evening, and occasional weekend hours as needed. Ability to travelbetween CCBC campuses required. Must have a valid driver’s licensewith 5 or less points. Class Specific Essential Duties Coordinate a functional process within assigned Collegedepartment or division. Implement department programs or initiatives. Monitor compliance with policies and procedures. Maintain department records and files, as required. Conduct and attend meetings, as required. Supervise, advise, and evaluate assigned staff, asrequired. Prepare, analyze and provide reports on miscellaneous subjects,as requested. Interpret for deaf faculty at CCBC as assigned. Position Specific Essential Duties Coordinate interpreting services for Deaf and hard of hearingfaculty and staff to ensure timely and appropriate communicationaccess and program services are being implemented in compliancewith all applicable rules and regulations. Supports the college-wide coordination of interpreting servicesand serves as a designated interpreter for college events, facultyand committee meetings, and other institutional activities asassigned. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practicesthat strengthen interpreting services for Deaf students, faculty,and staff. Recommend operational improvements to interpretingservices. Provides compliance oversight with internal and externalpolicies and professional standards while responding to changingcommunication access needs. Develop and coordinate professional development and outreachfor designated interpreting services. Supervises part-time interpreters. Provides mentoring,coaching, performance feedback, and training. Assists with recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, andevaluation of staff. Serve as the Local Test Administrator (LTA) for state andnational sign language interpreter certification examinations. Serve as a campus resource regarding interpreting services,communication access, and Deaf culture Maintain records related to interpreting services, testingactivities, mentor interpreters, and program operations. Mentor students enrolled in the Interpreter Preparation Programduring field experiences and practicum placements to provideformative feedback to students and communicate progress withInterpreter Preparation Program faculty. Ensure compliance with testing policies, security protocols,and confidentiality requirements. Coordinate all aspects of interpreter testing, includingcandidate communication, scheduling and facility preparation. Support additional interpreter assessment and certificationinitiatives as assigned. Serve as a designated interpreter to provide professional signlanguage interpreting and transliteration services for assigneddeaf faculty members, staff and students for classes, office hours,committee meetings, college events, and other assignedactivities. Interpret effectively between American Sign Language andEnglish in a variety of instructional, administrative, and publicsettings. Maintain professional standards consistent with the RID Code ofProfessional Conduct. Team effectively with staff and contract interpreters to ensurequality interpreting services. Coordinate and manage college-wide interpreting schedules forDeaf faculty, students, college events, and other institutionalactivities.
