MCA_Marketing and Communications Associate

Cape Abilities

GENERAL SUMMARY

Cape Abilities is seeking a part-time Marketing & Communications Associate to provide coverage during a planned staff leave. This is a role for a creative, visually oriented communicator who can step in quickly, learn our brand and voice, and keep our social media presence strong while our Marketing & Communications Manager is on leave.

The core of this role is content creation: social media graphics, photography, and copy that capture the energy and mission of Cape Abilities, Cape Abilities Farm, and Cape Abilities Thrift. The right candidate has a good eye, experience working in a self-directed way, and a proven ability to make compelling content for social media.

This role includes regular on-site time at Cape Abilities' locations — the Lyndon Center in Hyannis, the Farm in Dennis, and the Thrift Store in West Yarmouth — to capture photos and video for use across our channels. That presence in our spaces is important to telling compelling stories about our mission and impact.

There is potential for this position to continue beyond the initial three months. Cape Abilities is exploring whether dedicated content creation and production support (photography, graphics, and social media) could benefit our team in the longer term. If that direction fits your interests, we'd love to hear about it.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Social Media Content Creation

  • Create graphics, short-form videos, and static posts for Cape Abilities' social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Write copy for social posts in Cape Abilities' voice
  • Coordinate with Farm and Thrift staff to gather content, source stories, and ensure both enterprises are well represented in agency channels; post in Farm and Thrift channels periodically
  • Maintain existing posting cadence and uphold brand standards

Photography

  • Visit Cape Abilities locations (the Lyndon Center, the Farm, and the Thrift) at least every other week to capture photos and short video
  • Build and maintain a library of high-quality images for use across social media channels, websites, and print materials
  • Select and edit photos to meet Cape Abilities' visual standards
  • Manage the photo consent process in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.

Graphic Design

  • Produce and adapt marketing materials and social media graphics
  • Ensure all designed materials are on-brand and ready to use across channels

Content Coordination and Calendar

  • Manage the shared editorial and promotional calendar
  • Coordinate with Development and Business Operations staff to gather content and meet deadlines

Websites

  • Make routine content updates to our websites as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, content creation, or a related field
  • Strong visual sensibility: able to take compelling photos, create polished graphics, and recognize what makes an image work
  • Photography skills: smartphone photography is fine; DSLR experience a plus
  • Proficiency in Canva or a comparable design tool
  • Proficiency in social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube
  • Strong copywriting skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and ramp up quickly with existing systems and processes
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to Cape Abilities locations in Hyannis, Dennis, and West Yarmouth

Preferred

  • Experience creating content for a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Video capture and basic editing skills (Reels, short-form video)
  • Familiarity with WordPress and similar website content management platforms
  • Responsible use of AI tools in daily work
  • Familiarity with disability services or community-based organizations

The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to do this job. The above is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required.

*External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.
