POSITION: Community Education Specialist (Temporary / Contract-to-Hire)
STATUS: Full Time40 hours/week (Nonexempt).
Temporary / Contract-to-Hire. Initial 3 month contract period with potential for conversion to permanent full-time status based on performance and organizational needs.
LOCATION: Fremont, CA. (Service Area: Alameda & Santa Clara County) COMPENSATION: $28.63 per hour. Comprehensive benefits package; 403 (b) retirement plan; paid holidays, vacation, and sick time. Note: Full benefits package and retirement contributions typically commence upon successful conversion to permanent status.
THE ORGANIZATION: SAVE provides safety, support and resources for people to live free from Intimate Partner Violence and engages communities in the work to end violence. In pursuit of this mission, SAVE provides a comprehensive range of direct services to people experiencing domestic violence from immediate crisis intervention to long-term supportive services. POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Education Specialist plays a key role in the Community Education Department by 1) scheduling and delivering violence prevention education and training; 2) mentoring the youth leadership group in their initiatives to prevent teen dating violence, including a health summit.; 3) developing curriculum and awareness campaigns; 4) supporting youth and adults with guidance and resources and providing crisis intervention; 5) training caregivers, service providers, and volunteers, equipping them with the tools to recognize unhealthy relationships and support clients effectively. Strong candidates for this position will demonstrate an understanding of specific issues faced by youth and have experience implementing programs and building relationships with community partners. The candidate will have a deep commitment to providing trauma-informed, youth-centered, and harm-reduction services. Previous experience working with youth, community members, educators, service providers, and survivors is strongly desired. Experience delivering engaging presentations and activities is also strongly desired. Candidates who are bilingual and bicultural and who have lived experience with domestic violence are strongly encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Education:- Schedule and conduct classroom-based presentations on healthy relationships, consent, conflict resolution, and teen dating violence prevention in middle schools, high schools, and with community groups.
- Assist with the creation and refinement of curriculum, including lesson plans, activities, and awareness campaigns. Adapt content based on feedback and current events.
- Provide training and education to caregivers, service providers, and volunteers on intimate partner violence topics. Help develop and refine training materials for community outreach. This includes supporting the preparation and delivery of domestic violence education for new advocates during SAVEs 40-Hour Training.
- Actively pursue opportunities for professional development to enhance your skills and impact.
Data Management and Engagement:
- Collect, analyze, and report on program data to track and measure success, ensuring continuous program improvement.
- Engage in community outreach efforts, including, tabling and awareness events, to promote teen dating violence prevention and foster community-wide engagement.
- In collaboration with team members and other staff, utilize forums such as SAVEs social media presence to promote non-violence education and information.
Client Support:
- Support and mentor SAVEs youth leadership group, helping youth leaders facilitate peer-led workshops, discussions, and campaigns.
- Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and key stakeholders to ensure the programs success and expand outreach.
- Assist in individual and group support and counseling, offering guidance on healthy relationship dynamics and referring youth to appropriate services when necessary.
- Participate in restorative practices with individuals who have caused harm, when requested.
Team Support:
- Support the planning, implementation, and execution of the Symbiosis Summit, helping youth and adult leaders engage the broader community.
- This position requires close collaboration and coordination with the Community Education team to ensure consistent, high-quality prevention education and outreach.
- Engage in regular supervision sessions with your supervisor for feedback, goal-setting, and identifying areas of growth.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as requested, ensuring alignment with program goals and staying informed on best practices.
- Offer suggestions and ideas to enhance program development, taking part in discussions and offering perspectives on education and outreach strategies.
- Help train new staff and volunteers as needed, ensuring they understand program objectives and have the tools necessary for success.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions effectively.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, capable of connecting with both youth and adults quickly and effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and develop strategies to implement informed, responsible solutions.
- Comfort discussing sensitive topics, such as domestic violence, and the ability to handle these discussions with care and professionalism.
- Ability to deliver presentations and materials with enthusiasm, making the content accessible and engaging for people of varying ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to adjust delivery and engagement strategies based on the audience and setting to ensure effective participation.
- Strong leadership qualities and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong alignment with the mission and values of SAVE, with a focus on creating a future free from teen dating violence.
- Basic understanding of social justice issues, including domestic violence, its causes, and its impact, as well as its intersectionality with other social issues.
- Availability to work during school hours (Monday Friday, 7:30 am 3:30 pm).
- Ability to travel throughout two counties (Alameda and Santa Clara County) to deliver presentations and attend community events. Service area includes Union City, San Leandro, San Jose and neighboring communities, with flexibility to serve the broader region as needed.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, graphic resources, word processing, and other digital tools.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to school sites, community organizations, and other locations as needed. A valid California drivers license, proof of insurance, and access to an automobile. Must meet agency driving requirements and maintain necessary documentation, including loss of payee endorsement.
