Outpatient Psychiatrist

Ellis Medicine is seeking a full-time Outpatient Psychiatrist to join our well-established and highly collaborative Behavioral Health team in Schenectady, New York.

Ellis Psychiatry has been helping people overcome mental illness for more than 50 years and offers specialized services for adults, children, and adolescents. Our adult outpatient clinic provides care in a supportive, collaborative, and collegial interdisciplinary environment focused on delivering high-quality mental health treatment to the Capital Region.

The outpatient program offers a range of services, including integrated primary care, medication management, individual and group therapy, personalized recovery-oriented services (PROS), and crisis diversion services for adults, children, and their families.

Position Highlights

• Established outpatient psychiatry practice within Ellis Medicine's Behavioral Health services
• Highly collaborative, interdisciplinary clinical environment
• Work alongside psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, counselors, and case managers
• Evaluate and treat an adult psychiatric patient population with a broad range of mental health conditions
• Generous appointment times, including up to 90 minutes for initial intake appointments and up to 30 minutes for follow-up visits
• Opportunities to provide individual psychotherapy and/or lead psychotherapy groups for physicians with an interest in these services
• Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts
• Shared, compensated call rotation
• Focus on quality, patient-centered care rather than volume

Clinical Responsibilities

The Outpatient Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment for adults presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions, including:

• Mood disorders
• Psychotic disorders
• Anxiety disorders
• Trauma- and stress-related disorders
• Personality disorders
• Dual-diagnosis conditions

Responsibilities will include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management. Physicians with an interest in psychotherapy may also have opportunities to provide individual psychotherapy and/or lead psychotherapy groups.

The position includes participation in a shared call schedule. All call is compensated in addition to base compensation. The typical call schedule is approximately one telephone-only weeknight every four weeks and one in-person weekend every eight weeks, generally on a provider-volunteer basis.

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
• Licensed (or eligible) to practice in New York State
• Experience treating an adult psychiatric patient population
• Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Strong commitment to collaborative, team-based, patient-centered care

Recruitment Package

Ellis Medicine offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

• Base Salary: $318,000-$354,000, commensurate with experience with the ability to earn more in quality-based incentives
• The posted salary reflects the starting range of total compensation and does not include productivity bonuses incentives related to quality and performance, extra shift incentives, and other forms of cash compensation as applicable to the position. Please note that this salary range is provided in accordance with State law and is subject to variation due to the factors noted above.
• $30,000 starting bonus
