Medical Director

Sage Veterinary Imaging

Lead Medicine. Develop Clinicians. Shape the Future. At Sage Veterinary Imaging, exceptional medicine begins with strong clinical leadership. As Medical Director, you will serve as the senior clinical leader for our Spring, Texas practice, providing direct medical leadership, clinical direction, and accountability at the site level. Your impact will also extend across Sage Veterinary Imaging. You will lead the clinical development of Sage’s entire Practice Site Veterinarian team and its interns, providing enterprise-wide clinical guidance, mentorship, education, and support. You will promote consistent, evidence-based standards of care and lead Sage’s enterprise-wide morbidity and mortality review process. You will work closely with the Hospital Manager, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Medical Director – Radiology, board-certified radiologists, and specialty clinicians. Together, you will ensure that clinical and operational priorities remain aligned while advancing veterinarian performance, medical quality, patient outcomes, and the delivery of specialty diagnostic imaging throughout the organization. This is a working medical leadership position combining direct patient care with protected time for site leadership, enterprise-wide DVM and intern development, M&M reviews, quality improvement, protocol development, and organizational initiatives. Key Responsibilities Provide Exceptional Patient Care Practice as a general practitioner within Sage’s advanced diagnostic imaging environment. Evaluate referred patients and develop appropriate diagnostic plans in collaboration with referring veterinarians, radiologists, and specialists. Oversee sedation, anesthesia, patient management, recovery, and discharge. Communicate clearly with pet owners and referring veterinarians regarding diagnostic recommendations, patient status, and next steps. Ensure each patient receives safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care. Maintain the referring veterinarian’s role as the patient’s primary care provider while providing focused diagnostic support. Lead the Spring Practice Serve as the senior clinical leader for the Spring practice. Direct the practice’s clinical priorities, medical standards, and quality of care. Lead Spring’s DVMs and interns and provide guidance on complex or high-risk cases. Establish expectations for clinical decision-making, documentation, communication, and professional accountability. Address clinical performance concerns through feedback, coaching, and structured improvement plans. Partner with the Hospital Manager to align clinical priorities with staffing, workflow, capacity, and patient access. Support the implementation of new clinical services, technologies, and protocols. Develop Sage’s DVMs and Interns Lead the clinical development of DVMs and interns across all Sage locations. Provide coaching, case-based mentorship, and regular feedback. Strengthen diagnostic reasoning, anesthesia planning, case management, communication, and clinical judgment. Lead rounds, case reviews, and educational initiatives. Guide the clinical onboarding and development of newly hired veterinarians. Establish development priorities, monitor progress, and identify future clinical leaders. Partner with Sage’s medical and educational leaders to oversee intern development. Provide Enterprise-Wide Clinical Guidance Serve as a clinical resource for Sage’s DVMs and interns. Provide guidance on diagnostic planning, anesthesia, patient management, complex cases, and standards of care. Develop and reinforce evidence-based clinical protocols and expectations. Promote consistency in clinical decision-making, documentation, case management, and communication. Facilitate collaboration among DVMs, interns, radiologists, specialists, technicians, and operational leaders. Escalate matters involving specialist interpretation, significant clinical risk, or organizational medical policy to the appropriate medical leader. Lead Enterprise-Wide M&M Reviews Lead a consistent, structured morbidity and mortality review process across Sage. Ensure appropriate cases are reviewed objectively and constructively. Identify clinical risks, trends, educational needs, and improvement opportunities. Translate findings into clinician feedback, education, protocol changes, and process improvements. Assign and monitor follow-up actions. Share relevant lessons across locations to support organizational learning. Collaborate with the Chief Medical Director – Radiology and other leaders when cases involve specialty care or broader organizational risk. Advance Clinical Quality Monitor clinical quality, adverse events, patient outcomes, and relevant performance trends. Use findings to guide coaching, education, protocols, and quality-improvement efforts. Promote consistent standards of care across Sage practices. Partner with the Chief Medical Director – Radiology, Chief Operating Officer, Hospital Managers, and clinical teams to improve patient care and service delivery. Scope of Leadership Clinical practice: Provides direct patient care as a general practitioner within Sage’s advanced specialty imaging environment. Spring practice: Serves as the senior clinical leader responsible for medical direction, clinical accountability, and partnership with the Hospital Manager. Enterprise-wide: Leads DVM and intern development, provides clinical guidance, oversees M&M reviews, and advances consistent standards of care across Sage Veterinary Imaging. Qualifications Required Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree. Eligible for or currently licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Texas, or able to obtain licensure. Five or more years of clinical veterinary experience. Demonstrated leadership experience through mentoring, teaching, supervision, or clinical program development. Strong clinical judgment and commitment to evidence-based medicine. Excellent communication, coaching, collaboration, and relationship-building skills. Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and influence others through leadership. Ability to build trusted relationships across clinical, operational, and executive teams. Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, and organizational skills. Ability to analyze clinical performance data and translate insights into meaningful improvement. Commitment to continuous professional development. Willingness to travel between Sage locations as needed. Preferred Desire to learn advanced diagnostic imaging, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and digital radiography. Experience developing clinical protocols, standards of care, or quality improvement initiatives. Experience mentoring veterinarians, interns, or multidisciplinary clinical teams. Experience collaborating with board-certified specialists or leading across multiple practice locations. Experience in clinical education, continuing education, or the development of new clinical services. Work Environment This is a full-time clinical leadership position based primarily at our Spring, Texas practice. The role includes: Regular on-site clinical and leadership presence. Direct patient care combined with protected administrative time for mentorship, quality improvement, protocol development, and organizational initiatives. Collaboration with veterinarians, radiologists, and leaders across Sage Veterinary Imaging. Participation in leadership meetings, case reviews, and educational activities. Occasional travel between Sage locations. Following successful onboarding, eligibility for one remote workday per week dedicated to focused clinical leadership activities, while remaining available to support the practice and organization.
