Role Summary Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) – Holtz Children’s Hospital and Jackson Women’s Hospital, responsible for oversight of the hospital’s medical practice and promoting high quality, cost‑effective care. The ACMO serves as a liaison between medical staff and facility administration, reporting to the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Jackson Memorial Hospital with a dotted line to the Vice President of Holtz Children’s Hospital and Jackson Women’s Hospital. Responsibilities Assist with the oversight of the hospital’s medical practice to ensure and promote high quality and cost‑effective medical care. Serve as a liaison between medical staff and facility administration. Report to the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Jackson Memorial Hospital with a dotted line to the Vice President of Holtz Children’s Hospital and Jackson Women’s Hospital. Provide leadership and expertise for hospital quality and clinical effectiveness. Evaluate and optimize care management approaches, disease‑management processes, patient satisfaction, patient safety, and develop processes to assure appropriate care, including length of stay and ancillary resource utilization. Create an environment of quality and cost improvement that is data‑driven, developing systems to review resource utilization and objectively measure outcomes of care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Monitor physician and group patterns, present data, analysis and interpretation to physicians and hospital committees for review. Assure that quality‑management programs are carried out in all clinical areas through development and implementation of effective disease‑management programs, clinical protocols, guidelines, decision tools, and outcome review. Develop a performance database incorporating JCAHO and other key quality indicators to meet regulatory requirements and guidelines. Conduct a quality improvement program, including Peer Review process, chart reviews of providers, and development of corrective action plans to improve physician quality and behavior. Provide strategic leadership by focusing teams and organizational units on visions and distinctive strategies that result in excellent short‑ and long‑term performance in clinical, service, and financial outcomes. Integrate evidence‑based medicine practices into new and existing patient care delivery systems. Promote communication via scheduled meetings with senior staff and medical care providers and maintain effective relationships with medical personnel at Jackson Health Systems and the community. Facilitate patient transfers and provide ongoing counsel and advice to the JMH CMO and/or System CMO on physician matters. Takes primary responsibility for medical staff matters, concerns, and facilitates, intervenes, and moderates major physician‑physician, physician‑patient, and physician‑staff concerns in collaboration with the JMH CMO and other executive team members. Establish and maintain ongoing programs to orient and develop management expertise for Chiefs of Staff, members of the Medical Executive Committee, Clinical Chiefs, and other medical staff leaders. Develop and prioritize goals/objectives and work plans, including outcome definition and measurement, aligned with the overall organizational strategy and mission. Assist the Integrative Care Management Team in achieving clinical outcomes, length‑of‑stay reduction, denial reduction strategies, and best practice goals. Work closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and other clinical leaders to achieve effective care‑management processes and develop new initiatives to improve clinical quality. Provide oversight and leadership for all medical education programs, ensuring strong relationships with UM School of Medicine. Implement an organizational structure that promotes shared accountability, high achievement, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including electronic linkages and care‑delivery tools. Ensure medical staff development plans and programs are implemented and maintained as required by policy. Integrate clinical care quality and management with nursing, operations, and finance; collaborate with Holtz senior management, especially the Chief Nursing Officer. Dedicates resources and time to developing physician leadership incrementally, focusing on existing medical staff officers and clinical chiefs. Lead the sentinel events team and assist in reviewing medical practice to promote high quality and cost‑effective care. Keep JMH CMO and other administrators informed of all medical staff activities, problems, plans, and issues, including quality of care, adequacy of staff, teaching programs, and other matters affecting patient care. Represent the concerns of the medical staff to management and, conversely, represent the objectives and goals of facility administration to the medical staff. Oversee the comprehensive continuing medical education program designed to meet educational needs identified by the medical staff. Participate as a senior management member in the development of hospital‑wide goals, plans, policies, procedures, and programs. Assist with supervision and oversight of medical staff governance, performance improvement, risk management, patient safety processes, and the medical staff development/strategic plan.
