Clinical Nurse Manager - Ortho/Neuro Surgery -Full Time/Days/Grant Medical Center

Job Summary This position ensures delivery of evidence‑based practice by professional nursing personnel and other staff in designated areas of responsibility. The clinical nurse manager plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the unit’s delivery of evidence‑based patient care in a cost‑effective manner, providing leadership and clinical management to members of the health care team. The manager participates in the integration of the Nursing Philosophy along with the mission, vision, values, goals and objectives of OhioHealth in unit operations. Responsibilities Patient Care (50%) Assists the Manager in accountability for ongoing delivery of patient care in assigned area(s); assures application of the nursing process by Registered Nurses and documentation in the medical record. Assists Manager with planning, assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care as appropriate to the department/unit. Assists Manager with staffing planning, reviewing and coordinating schedules to meet volume and patient care needs. Assists Manager in coordinating nursing care with other health care disciplines across the continuum of health care. Ensures nursing practice in a safe environment, participates in process improvement activities and root cause analysis investigations. Uses data from various sources to initiate continuous quality improvement within the department/unit. Assists Manager with fiscal responsibility at the unit level. Operations and Personnel Management (25%) Maintains daily unit operations including staffing status, patient visits, admissions, discharges and transfers. Participates in recruitment, selection, retention and evaluation of personnel; conducts performance appraisals and disciplinary procedures. Ensures orientation, training, competence, continuing education and professional growth and development of personnel; maintains staff records. Assists manager in fiscal management of unit and implementation of services. Professional Development and Leadership (15%) Works as a coworker with medical staff, interdisciplinary team and other disciplines to support collaborative clinical management practices. Participates in orientation and continuing education, identifies learning needs of staff, and collects and uses data for quality and process improvement. Provides leadership and clinical management through supervision, delegation and teaching. Facilitates staff attendance at meetings and educational programs; supports shared decision‑making. Participates on Shared Governance Councils as a voting member; engages in hospital committees and decision making. Maintains professional competencies, attends educational and leadership programs, and pursues appropriate professional certification. Assesses impact of diversity, cultural competency, ethics, and societal needs; ensures culturally competent care and a safe working environment. Serves as patient safety coach. Research and Evidence‑Based Practice (10%) Supports evidence‑based practice by encouraging staff involvement in nursing evaluative research activities at the department level. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (Required) BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association RN – Registered Nurse – Ohio Board of Nursing 2–3 years nursing experience in related or similar areas of responsibility Previous leadership experience such as precepting, charge role, clinical lead role, mentoring, department committee leadership or facilitation of meetings Specialized knowledge in nursing process and clinical skills Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relationships, verbal and written communication and nursing practice standards Computer proficiency appropriate to area(s) of responsibility Work Shift: Day Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Department: Surgery Equal Employment Opportunity OhioHealth is an equal opportunity employer and fully supports compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
