Career Opportunities: Environmental Specialist (5808) Requisition ID 5808 -Posted 09/16/2026 - Filtration and Life Sciences - Medical BU - Windsor Locks Plant - Windsor Locks - Posting Country (1) As an Environmental Specialist you will have responsibility for development and execution of the site environmental programs and systems. These areas include sustainability, air, wastewater, and solid waste activities. You will work closely with functional areas to reduce the environmental impact of the facility through continuous improvement. Additional Responsibilities Include Must follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position’s areas of responsibility, to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper. Ensure all compliance requirements are met for the facility Accountable for the accurate and timely preparation, review, and submission of all environmental regulatory reports and filings, including NPDES DMR, Stormwater DMR, SARA Title III (311/312), TRI, and all other applicable federal, state and local requirements. Work with regulators on any incidents or requests Stay up to date on existing and upcoming regulations that can affect the facility Provide environmental support and review for projects throughout the facility. Auditing, risk assessing and delivering training to site personnel Work with corporate environmental and sustainability groups to help lead global initiatives Direct oversight of environmental operations like responsibility for day-to-day environmental system performance Assessing, analyzing & collecting environmental performance data Liaison between community, environmental agencies, and other interested parties Capital and new chemical reviews and approvals All other assignments assigned by management This list is not exhaustive and may not include all duties, responsibilities, or essential functions of the position as defined under the ADA Skills to be Successful Minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in environmental regulatory issues is preferred Bachelor’s degree in environmental science required; Chemical or Environmental Engineering preferred Some experience working with regulatory agencies Industrial experience preferred, but not necessary Experience with air and wastewater permitting is preferred Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential Must be able to effectively interact with a wide range of people including production and salaried employees, and regulatory personnel Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and methodical approach to work Experience with carbon reduction, water reduction, and zero-waste to landfill strategies desired The ability to work in a normal office environment to include sitting or standing for long periods of time, operating various standard office equipment, carrying paper documents/files, reaching and bending, speaking on the telephone. May include safely walking through our manufacturing plant and wearing required personal protection gear (i.e., hearing and foot protection).
