Lead Professional, Electrical Engineering

Job Description WSP is currently seeking a Lead Professional, Electrical Engineering to join our Power & Energy team in Meridian, ID. The candidate will support technical staff, design and manage electrical infrastructure projects across power generation, transmission, and distribution, ensuring adherence to industry standards and client objectives. Your Impact Guide the collection, compilation, and analysis of data related to project sites, blueprints, GIS maps, substation components, and procurement packages. Coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans for smaller, less-complex projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques to enhance project phases from concept development to operation. Perform complex electrical engineering tasks, including single-line, three-line, wiring diagrams, substation layouts, grounding grids, and lightning protection. Plan and integrate future‑ready techniques, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and trenching strategies. Review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding potentials, short circuit studies, protective device coordination, one‑line diagrams, relaying, and substation switchyard layouts. Develop and review plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, coordinating with owners, disciplines, subconsultants, and clients. Manage design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects from inception to completion, including rehabilitation, reconstruction, site development, grading, drainage, and phasing. Lead cross-functional engineering teams across multiple concurrent projects, tracking budgets, hours, expenses, and compliance documentation. Prepare data visualizations—tables, charts, reports—for presenting complex data and findings. Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, concepts, and recommendations for design improvement. Maintain high quality and responsiveness to client requirements in alignment with WSP standards. Analyze investigation data, develop mitigation action plans, and implement health and safety plans (HASPs). Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients. Collaborate with other engineers, planners, and authorities on federal, state, regional, and local improvement projects and business development opportunities. Stay current with latest electrical engineering techniques and practices. Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. 7 to 10 years of post‑education experience as an electrical engineer delivering capital project design for power generation, transmission, and distribution. Engineer license. Proficiency in electrical engineering principles, practices, design/build processes, and permitting. Extensive knowledge of infrastructure design. Competence in adjacent disciplines such as P&C, SCADA, and telecom. Experience planning, designing, and managing electrical infrastructure construction. Strong understanding of engineering and construction laws, codes, regulations, and record‑keeping. Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret plans, specifications, regulations. Capability to plan inspections and investigations of construction and design, applying regulations and policies. High interpersonal and communication skills; ability to present to engineering and non‑engineering audiences. Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Capacity to work independently with minimal oversight while guiding junior team members and ensuring QA/QC. Proficiency in technical writing, office automation, and design software (CADD, Aspen, CAPE, ETAP, Win IGS, Inventor, AutoCAD electrical). Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to evaluate testing results and data analysis. Demonstrated ability to direct subcontractors and complete tasks safely and efficiently. Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. Availability to work schedules beyond a typical workweek and willingness to travel as required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Engineering. 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred. Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
