Pharmacy Technician

HCW Qualifications


Degree/Education High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: HCW shall hold and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) . Certifications must be through American Heart Association or client guidelines. Members must present proof of current certification(s). Computer-based training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements. Must maintain currency at NO cost to the government


Experience: A minimum of 12 months of full-time experience within the last 36 months as a pharmacy technician.
Board Certification: None
Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), OR Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).

HCW Duties: The duties for the HCW are as follows but not limited to:


Perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures.
Interpret prescriptions for appropriateness to include contents, completeness, compatibility, and conformity with established pharmacy practice guidelines. Enter prescription orders into required databases or Electronic Health Records.
Perform required drug checks. Print labels for each order. Prepare, package, and label prescriptions and drug orders as required.
Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties.
Perform information consultation duties including supporting new and refill prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physicians' requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions.
Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation.
Perform supply process duties including placing new orders, stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, producing not in stock reports.
Perform monthly inspections of pharmaceuticals in assigned areas within the pharmacy and in patient care areas. Rotate drug stock to ensure freshness and potency, to include the removal and proper disposal of expired, suspended, and other unsuitable drugs.
Clean and arrange pharmacy equipment and supplies. Post and maintain pharmacy records including files required in controlled substances.

Computer Skill Competency : Each HCW shall demonstrate competency as required in the contract and as follows: : Computer operation and proficiency is required, to include, but not limited to: internet usage, computer applications/software, such as Essentris, Innovian, MHS Genesis, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Adobe, Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Edge, Excel, Access and Publisher), secure messaging, and electronic health records (EHR), MHS CarePoint.
