Summer Lifeguard

Job Details: Location: Cecil Family YMCA - Elkton, MD 21921; Position Type: Part Time; Salary Range: $15.00 - $15.00 Hourly; Job Shift: Evening; Job Category: Lifeguarding. POSITION SUMMARY This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Lifeguards will maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Lifeguards will create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Lifeguards will be required to participate in in-service trainings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or State Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions at all times. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service staff training. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS CPR, First Aid, and AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications along with any other additional trainings required within 30 days of hire. Current YMCA lifeguard or equivalent. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards. At least 16 years of age. Reliable and timely. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. Meet strength and lifting requirements. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
