Chronicle of Higher Education
Limited Term Executive (Working Title: Project Director) College of Education and Human Development, Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence, Georgia State University. For thirty years, the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence (Crim Center) at Georgia State University has stood as a city-wide laboratory for reimagining what is possible in urban education. The Crim Center serves as an interdisciplinary outreach, research, and educational support hub aimed at continuing the legacy of Dr. Alonzo A. Crim, the first African-American public schools superintendent in Atlanta and the South. Dr. Crim believed that every member of the community is a stakeholder in the success of its children and has a vested interest in the quality of public education. He mobilized “The Community of Believers,” a network of students, parents, educators at all levels, business persons, clergy members, and citizens. Guided by this enduring vision, the Crim Center uses this collaborative strategy to build equitable learning environments and expand life opportunities for children across Atlanta and beyond. The Center's signature events are the annual Benjamin E. Mays Lecture Series, SOURCES Conference of Educational Excellence, and Juneteenth Celebration. Current programming includes the Critical Conversations series, the SPARK literacy project, the Legacy Project, and CINEMA (Careers in New and Emerging Media). Recent collaborations include the Teach the Truth Tour, M.A.C.I.E. STE(A)M Summit, The Mark Cuban Foundation AI Camp for High School Students, and the Black History x STEAM Summer Leadership Institute. In 2026-27, the Crim Center will celebrate several major milestones, including the 30th anniversary of the Crim Center, the 20th anniversary of the SOURCES Conference, and the 38th anniversary of the Mays Lecture. These milestones will support expanded alumni and community engagement and strategic growth objectives. See crim.education.gsu.edu for details. What makes the Alonzo A.
