BEHS Assistant Coach (0.5)~ Co-Ed Indoor Track and Field

POSITION: Assistant Coach (0.5) – Co‑Ed Indoor Track and Field POSITION TITLE: Assistant Coach REPORTS TO: The head coach, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.

SUMMARY

To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach, instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success, and help athletes appreciate the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and increased self‑esteem.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the head coach in carrying out their responsibilities. Assist the head coach in issuing, collecting, and storing all equipment. Know the existing state and league regulations and abide by them at all times. Assist the head coach and athletic coordinator in scheduling contests and practices. Prepare for scheduled sport events and practices and adhere to scheduled facility times. Make recommendations to the head coach for awards. Recommend budgetary items for the next year in the program area. Explain team training rules, CIAC eligibility rules, and procedures to all team members. Have thorough knowledge of and implement policies and procedures in the student‑athlete handbook. Secure and maintain cleanliness, and monitor athletes in all athletic work areas. Refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Never criticize, admonish, or argue with the head coach or any staff member in the presence of players or parents. Take responsibility for the actions and conduct of athletes when under their jurisdiction. Ensure the general health and welfare of students in the sport, giving appropriate attention to injured, ill, or incapacitated athletes. Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach. Instill respect for equipment and school property in each player. Maintain necessary paperwork, such as attendance records, inventory of uniforms and equipment, and parent permission forms. Follow the department's procedures for injured athletes. Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach. Perform other duties consistent with the position that may be requested by the head coach or Director of Athletics. Maintain current Connecticut coaching certification with the Connecticut Department of Education.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit. Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education. Knowledge and background in the assigned sport. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to meet the expectations listed below.
