Job Title: Welder / Weld Technician

Job Description

This direct hire role focuses on supporting daily welding operations and weld quality assurance in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. You set up and operate welding equipment, perform both destructive and nondestructive weld testing, interpret inspection results, and help drive continuous improvement in weld processes while strictly following safety, quality, and production standards.

Responsibilities

• Support and follow the company safety program at all times and promote a safe work culture on the shop floor.
• Support daily welding operations using MIG, TIG, resistance, or robotic welding processes as applicable.
• Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot welding equipment, tooling, and fixtures to ensure consistent and high-quality welds.
• Perform cut and etch inspections to evaluate weld penetration, fusion, and nugget size.
• Conduct destructive weld testing, including peel tests, chisel tests, torque and tension tests, and macro-etch samples.
• Perform basic nondestructive testing and inspections such as visual inspection, dye penetrant testing, and magnetic particle testing as applicable.
• Interpret inspection results and identify weld defects, process deviations, and nonconformances.
• Assist with corrective actions and process improvements based on inspection findings and test data.
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and inspection standards to ensure welds meet specifications.
• Support weld process validation activities, trials, and internal or customer audits related to welding.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspection results, weld parameters, and test data.
• Follow all safety, quality, and production requirements and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain and produce Red Rabbits at the cell to support process verification and quality checks.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MIG welding in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in TIG welding in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols accurately.
• Experience with fitting and fabrication to assemble components prior to welding.
• Basic experience performing quality inspections related to welding.
• High school diploma or equivalent educational background.
• Ability to set up, adjust, and troubleshoot welding equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
• Ability to perform and document destructive and basic nondestructive weld testing.
• Strong attention to detail to identify weld defects and process deviations.
• Commitment to following safety, quality, and production requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Welding certificate or formal welding training.
• Quality experience with nondestructive testing (NDT), including dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspection.
• Experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with weld process validation, trials, and audit support.
• Experience maintaining test records, weld parameters, and inspection documentation.

Work Environment

This position operates on a first-shift schedule in a well-lit automotive manufacturing environment. The facility is not temperature controlled, so conditions may vary with the seasons. You work around welding equipment, tooling, fixtures, and testing instruments used for both destructive and nondestructive weld inspections. The environment emphasizes strict adherence to safety, quality, and production standards, with a structured process-focused setting typical of automotive manufacturing.

This is a Permanent position based out of Wooster, OH.

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $62400.00/yr.
