Marketing Intern

Change Craft is a Sacramento-based strategic communications firm serving government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and political campaigns across California. As a certified small business and minority-owned business, we specialize in issue advocacy, coalition building, multicultural and LGBTQ+ community strategy, public health communications, and political and public affairs campaigns. We collaborate closely with our clients and the communities they serve to design campaigns that inform, engage, and drive meaningful change. We are seeking a Marketing Intern to gain hands‑on experience across marketing, public relations, research, and advocacy communications. This paid, part‑time internship offers real‑world exposure to campaigns supporting public health, equity, and social change throughout California, while building skills in content creation, audience research, community outreach, social media management, event planning, and advocacy communications. This opportunity is well suited to current college students and recent graduates in communications, marketing, journalism, political science, public relations, or related fields who are looking to build practical experience and prepare for the next step in their careers. What You'll Gain Real-world experience working on public awareness and advocacy campaigns Exposure to the day‑to‑day operations of a growing communications agency Opportunities to contribute to projects for clients in public health, education, and equity‑focused initiatives Mentorship from senior communications professionals Participation in team meetings, brainstorms, and creative sessions Portfolio‑building work, resume experience, and the opportunity to earn letters of recommendation Exposure to professionals across California's policy, government, and advocacy spaces Development of transferable skills, including project management tools, media monitoring, and other agency‑related competencies Core Areas of Support Social and Digital Content: Assist in writing, designing, and curating content for social media and web platforms while learning how to measure performance Advocacy: Track public hearings, contribute to advocacy materials, and support policy‑aligned messaging Research: Support research on special populations and public health topics, assist with data collection, help coordinate recruitment for client research projects, and contribute to synthesizing insights that inform campaign strategy Events: Help coordinate logistics for community events, client meetings, and grassroots activations, from planning through on‑site support Public Relations and Strategic Communications: Draft copy, support media tracking, and contribute to campaign messaging and outreach strategies Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships: Assist with outreach to local organizations, stakeholders, and community partners in support of campaign development Client Services and Project Management: Participate in team meetings, help maintain project timelines, and support internal coordination Day-to-Day Responsibilities Social and Digital Content Support content creation for digital and social platforms, including writing copy, designing graphics, editing photos, and scheduling posts Draft brand‑aligned copy for social media, newsletters, presentations, and client‑facing materials Capture photos and video content at events, meetings, or shoots for client and internal use Help organize editorial calendars for digital content planning and approvals Track and report on digital metrics such as engagement, post performance, and impressions Advocacy Attend public hearings or legislative events and summarize key takeaways for advocacy‑related clients and campaigns Assist in preparing briefing documents or talking points for policy-focused initiatives Conduct background research to support advocacy messaging, campaign strategy, or stakeholder education efforts Stay informed on relevant legislative and policy developments and share updates with internal teams Events Assist in planning logistics for campaign events, client meetings, summits, or workshops Provide on‑site support at agency‑hosted events, including community functions and client activations Coordinate event registration, guest communications, materials, and space setup Support internal and external meeting logistics, including scheduling, agendas, and recap notes Public Relations and Strategic Communications Help draft media outreach materials, press releases, and campaign messaging Support media tracking and monitoring efforts across client accounts Contribute research and copy for strategic communications plans and client deliverables Eligibility Requirements To be eligible, applicants should possess all of the required qualifications below and some of the preferred qualifications. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Currently enrolled as a second, third, or fourth‑year student in a qualifying major at a two‑ or four‑year institution, or a recent graduate within the past four years with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree Qualifying fields include Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Research, Psychology, Sociology, Advertising, Business, Political Science, Pre‑Law, Public Policy, Media Studies, Strategic Communication, or a related field Available to work 25 to 38 hours per week for at least six months Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset Proficiency with social media platforms Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) Ability to work from an office located in Sacramento Preferred Qualifications Fluency in English and Spanish for professional work Proactive and collaborative mindset with a strong desire to learn and grow Experience working with Mac OS devices Experience with events, community engagement, or experiential marketing Professional or lived experience with communities served by our clients' public health initiatives Beginner‑level proficiency in graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite Other Details This is a temporary, part‑time, paid position Interns are not eligible for company-sponsored benefits, including health, dental, or vision coverage Interns receive formal onboarding, weekly check‑ins, and a midpoint and final evaluation Final Project To Cap Off Each Six‑month Internship Term, Interns Complete a Final Project Designed To Reflect Their Learning, Showcase Their Work, And Strengthen Their Portfolio For Future Career Opportunities.
