Carpenter ApprenticeThis role involves working both in the shop and in the field performing general labor, construction, and installation of metal and steel components. You assemble and build metal and steel panels for a variety of architectural, ornamental, and decorative projects, using hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery. The position requires flexibility to work indoors and outdoors, travel to different job sites, and start early on first shift.ResponsibilitiesWork in both the shop and the field performing general labor, construction, and installation of metal parts and steel panels.Assist in building and assembling metal and steel panels for a wide range of architectural, ornamental, and decorative metalwork projects.Travel to various job sites using your own vehicle to transport yourself to and from the work locations as needed.Use hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery to cut, grind, sand, polish, and prepare metal and other raw materials.Accurately read and use a tape measure to measure materials and ensure precise cuts and fits.Operate saws and other cutting tools, including band saws and table saws, to cut wood and other raw materials for crating and fabrication.Use grinders, sanders, and other electric tools for cutting, grinding, sanding, and polishing metal components.Apply combo squares and basic layout tools to mark, measure, and prepare materials according to specifications.Interpret blueprints to understand project requirements and ensure proper fabrication and installation of parts.Perform general clean-up duties in the facility to maintain a safe and organized work area.Crate finished parts, including building crates from wood, to prepare products for shipment or transport.Properly load and unload trucks with materials and finished products, ensuring safe handling and stacking.Train on forklift operation and obtain certification upon becoming a permanent employee; safely operate forklifts as needed.Perform pallet wrapping and shrink wrapping of materials and finished goods for secure storage and transport.Carry out sanding and prepping of metal surfaces prior to finishing or installation.Work as a shop hand supporting production, installation, and general labor tasks as assigned.Lift and move materials weighing 50 pounds or more in a hot, physically demanding environment.Participate in field installations at various customer sites, including commercial and residential locations.Follow all safety guidelines, including wearing required personal protective equipment and adhering to shop and site safety rules.Essential SkillsStrong ability to read and use a tape measure with a high level of proficiency.Comfort and experience using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, and basic layout tools.Ability to safely use power tools including grinders, sanders, saws, and other electric cutting tools.Experience operating saws and other cutting tools to cut wood and raw materials, including band saws and table saws.Capability to perform grinding, polishing, and sanding on metal components.Basic blueprint reading skills to understand measurements, layouts, and fabrication requirements.Ability to perform general labor tasks, including lifting 50+ pounds in a hot environment.Reliable access to a personal vehicle and willingness to drive to various job sites.Ability to properly load and unload trucks with materials and finished products.Willingness to train on forklift operation and obtain certification when eligible for permanent employment.Ability to perform pallet wrapping and shrink wrapping tasks.Willingness to work first shift and start as early as 4:00 AM when needed.Openness to working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.Attention to detail when measuring, cutting, and assembling metal and wood components.Ability to follow safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with landscaping, production, or other physically demanding labor roles is beneficial.Familiarity with sheet metal work or serving as a welder helper is an advantage.Comfort working as a shop hand in a busy fabrication environment.Ability to use combo squares and other layout tools for precise fabrication.Experience with crating and packaging parts, including building wooden crates, is helpful.Interest in learning new skills such as welding and glazing through cross-training opportunities.Capability to work overtime and 10-hour days when required.Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to travel to multiple sites, including commercial and residential locations.Why Work Here?You join a team that invests in training and skill development, with opportunities to cross-train into specialized areas such as welding and glazing. You work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including a shop with no air conditioning, so conditions can be hot and physically demanding. Standard hours run approximately from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with significant overtime available; you must be willing to work 10-hour days when needed. Work may occur at a variety of field sites, including large industrial facilities, hotels, resorts, student housing, and other commercial locations around the greater Phoenix area. You use a range of hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery, and may train on and operate forklifts. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear and long pants from day one; shorts are not permitted and failure to follow this requirement can result in being sent home. Safety, precision, and teamwork are central to the daily work environment.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
