Intermediate Diesel Mechanic

Position Summary (Immediately Available)

The Intermediate Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on diesel-powered trucks, trailers, and equipment. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to troubleshoot complex vehicle systems, and the experience needed to work independently while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. We are looking for a dedicated, long-term mechanic who wants to help build and grow our future team and fleet maintenance organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) and services on diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, drivetrains, braking systems, steering/suspension systems, electrical systems, and HVAC components.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues efficiently using diagnostic software and specialized testing equipment.
• Complete all repairs according to manufacturer specifications and company quality standards.
• Perform DOT inspections and ensure all vehicles remain compliant with federal and state regulations.
• Repair and replace components including brakes, tires, wheel seals, lighting, air systems, and hydraulic components.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, including detailed work orders and parts usage documentation.
• Respond to and complete roadside service calls and emergency repairs when required.
• Keep a clean, organized, and safe shop work environment.
• Communicate repair recommendations and equipment status clearly to management and drivers.
• Oversee dump truck certifications and track preventative maintenance completions.
  

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Perform advanced diagnostics using computerized tools to troubleshoot and repair engine, transmission, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Preventative Maintenance: Execute routine maintenance including oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
• Inspections: Conduct annual to ensure equipment compliance.
• Documentation: Accurately complete repair tickets and maintenance logs, either manually or electronically.
  

Qualifications

• Experience: 3–5 years of diesel mechanic experience required (5–7 years preferred).
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in diesel technology preferred.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems and electrical systems.
• Diagnostics: Experience using electronic diagnostic software and computerized troubleshooting tools.
• Licensing: Valid driver's license required; CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred but not required.
• Documentation: Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring schematics, and technical service bulletins.
• Bonus Skills: Welding and fabrication experience is a strong plus.
  

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• ASE Diesel or Master Mechanic Certifications.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in tight spaces or various weather conditions.
• Must be able to operate shop equipment, heavy machinery, and hand tools safely.
