Role Description The Exercise Physiologist is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago, IL. This role is responsible for assessing physical fitness and health status, developing individualized exercise prescriptions, and monitoring participant progress in a clinical or wellness setting. Day-to-day tasks include conducting cardiovascular and metabolic assessments, designing and supervising safe and effective exercise programs, and supporting rehabilitation efforts for individuals with cardiac or other chronic health conditions. The Exercise Physiologist collaborates with faculty, health professionals, and staff to promote evidence-based exercise practices, provides education on lifestyle modification, and maintains accurate documentation and outcome data. The role also contributes to a positive, inclusive environment aligned with the University’s mission and commitment to diverse learners and community members. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in Physiology and Exercise Physiology, including understanding of cardiovascular, metabolic, and musculoskeletal responses to exercise. Proficiency in Exercise Prescription and Rehabilitation, with the ability to design, implement, and adjust individualized programs for various fitness levels and clinical populations. Experience or training in Cardiac Rehabilitation, including monitoring patients during exercise, recognizing risk factors, and supporting recovery and long-term health. Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a closely related field; master’s degree preferred. Relevant professional certification (e.g., ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, or equivalent) or eligibility to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and support a diverse population. Knowledge of safety protocols, risk assessment, and emergency procedures in clinical and fitness settings.
