About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty License: Compact or state license required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - CPI (for specific roles) - NIHSS (for specific roles) Must-Have: - Telemetry experience - Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias - Proficient in starting IVs and managing lines Description: Please ensure all travelers are aware of the following: Upon accepting an assignment and starting your role, unit managers may assign travelers to an emergency team. There will be an expectation to remain on-site until the emergency event passes. Specific details regarding pay during emergency events will be communicated as necessary. By signing the travel contract, travelers accept these conditions and agree to report as assigned. Candidates should not apply if they are not comfortable with these expectations. Holiday availability requires candidates to work two of the four designated holiday periods annually: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Although Halloween is not a paid holiday, some units may still require coverage. Holiday assignments depend on departmental needs and fair staff rotation. The unit accommodates first-timers with at least two years of experience. Common patient diagnoses in this unit include: Chest pain, CAD, PVD, arrhythmias, diabetes, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, CHF, GI bleed, and syncope. There is always a potential for medical-surgical overflow cases such as GI bleed, sepsis, CVA, and COVID positive patients. Special procedures and unit details include: Pre/post catheterization lab care, PPM/AICD management, ablations, and various vascular surgeries. Drip titration for medications such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and Heparin are required. Sheath pulling at bedside is a common procedure. Travelers may be pulled to other inpatient units as needed, and specific scheduling requests cannot be guaranteed. Facility operates with patient ratios of six patients per nurse during nights and weekends. Availability of interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and unit secretary assistance. Required skills include: Accessing and managing ports, managing BiPAP/CPAP, blood product administration, cardiac telemetry, central line care and management, and wound care. Experience with care for patients post-cardiac procedures is essential. Knowledge of isolation precautions and wound management is also required. Travelers are expected to maintain the unit’s standards of care and be prepared for dynamic staffing needs. Specific experience in travel nursing is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with previous charge experience are not acceptable for this role.
