The Respiratory Care Services Department provides quality individualized care for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients through trained Registered Respiratory Therapists, advanced technology, and defined patient protocols. In this role, the Respiratory Therapist Registry- Per Diem - PRN administers respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under supervision, supports patient assessments to determine cardiopulmonary status, and implements appropriate patient care protocols. The role may include initiating and maintaining emergent and non-emergent non-invasive ventilation and invasive mechanical ventilation per department policies and protocols. Essential Job Functions Administers supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy as prescribed by physician orders or approved department protocols; documents procedures in the EPIC electronic medical record. Administers intermittent (Small Volume Nebulizer, MDI, etc.) or continuous medication delivery therapy (bronchodilators, steroid therapy, mucolytics, etc.) per physician orders or department protocols; documents procedures in EPIC in real time and assesses the patient during administration. Performs bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and airway care; implements airway clearance techniques (Chest Physiotherapy, coughing/deep breathing techniques, Therapy Vest, Flutter valve, ExPap device, Acapella device, incentive spirometry) per physician orders or departmental protocols; documents in EPIC. Initiates and maintains non-invasive ventilation (NIV) procedures (BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow Cannula); monitors patient status and NIV equipment tolerance; documents procedures in EPIC. Initiates, maintains, and assesses mechanical ventilation status; conducts thorough patient assessments to recommend and implement weaning plans per physician orders or ventilator protocols; documents in EPIC. Provides ventilator management (NIV and mechanical ventilation) with hemodynamic monitoring and reports parameters (e.g., weaning parameters, spontaneous breathing trials); documents in EPIC. Performs Arterial Blood Gas analysis per guidelines; troubleshoots ABG analyzers and performs quality control and calibration; reports results promptly. Provides patient transport as needed, including transport on oxygen delivery systems and ventilators. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications An Associate’s degree from an approved & accredited Respiratory Care Program. An active certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care. A current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to obtain prior to start. An active Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association. Demonstrates effective and accurate communication and documentation skills (verbal and written). Preferred Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved & accredited Respiratory Care Program. NRP certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification depending on patient care area and population served. Position Details Job Type/FTE: PRN, Per Diem, Registry (0.2 FTE). Shift: Day Shift – 12-hour shifts; four 12-hour shifts per six-week schedule. Unit/Department: Respiratory Care Services.
