Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of patient care. Responsible for reporting and documenting all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the supervisor. Duties / Activities Customer Service Drive the FMCNA culture through values and customer service standards. Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers. Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication. Take initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues promptly. Principal Responsibilities and Duties Patient Related Provide direct patient care for assigned patient(s). Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures as prescribed. Administer and monitor treatments in accordance with the current treatment plan or as directed by the supervisor. Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters and other relevant information in the patient record. Report significant changes in patient condition or equipment problems to the supervisor. Assist in developing and following the teaching plan to educate the patient and family. Assist with emergency operational procedures and administer intravenous medication as ordered. Perform and document pre‑, interim, and post‑treatment reviews of patient condition. Initiate basic CPR measures and respond to emergencies related to dialysis treatment. Technical Safely operate all dialysis equipment according to proper procedures. Provide minor troubleshooting when necessary. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Address blood spills immediately per FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies. Operate all emergency equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Staff Related Participate in staff meetings and care plan meetings. Acquire current knowledge of dialysis principles through scheduled in‑service classes. Act as a resource for other staff members; coordinate care plans with physicians, dietitians, and social workers. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Day‑to‑day work includes computer use, patient interaction, heavy lifting, and occasional travel to assigned facilities and meetings. The position requires frequent, prolonged standing and the ability to bend. Equipment and patients may weigh up to 200 lb and 30 lb respectively. The environment is a healthcare facility with temperature control and moderate noise. Exposure to infectious materials possible. Education Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN). Current state licensure. Experience and Required Skills Preferred: One year medical‑surgical nursing experience. Preferred: Hemodialysis or ICU experience (not required). Must complete a training course in hemodialysis theory and practice. Must complete CPR certification. Must complete the Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire. Ability to provide coverage during short‑staffing times. Must pass standard color‑blindness test as a condition of employment.
