Patient Care Tech (PCT) / Heart and Vascular Unit

Overview Position: Patient Care Tech Department: Heart and Vascular SE6 Shift: 7:00 am–7:30 pm, Full Time 36 hours per week, 72 hours per pay period Facility: Miami Valley Hospital Responsibilities Collaborate with nurses and doctors to provide personalized patient care. Check vital signs, including temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate. Assist patients with mobility, dressing, and eating. Collect samples (e.g., urine). Report changes in a patient’s condition to a nurse. Perform activities of daily living and related tasks (e.g., walking, positioning, ADLs, weighing patients) as directed. Supervision The PCT works under the supervision of a nurse to ensure tasks are performed safely and correctly. The role may also be referred to as a Patient Care Technician / Unit Clerk (PCT/HUC), with overlap in paperwork and other tasks that support hospital operations. Important Note The role supports patient care and hospital operations as part of the healthcare team. Education High school diploma or GED. Training and Qualifications Before start, obtain a BLS CPR certificate. CPR instruction may be provided during orientation if not already certified. Successful completion of one of the following: Completion of previous STNA or CNA training or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training. Direct patient care experience within the last five years, including vital signs and direct patient care activities (e.g., bathing, turning/positioning, toileting). Currently enrolled in nursing school with at least one clinical rotation completed. Other Skills Ability to multitask while remaining courteous under interruptions. Computer literacy.
