Pastry Commis Opportunity

As a Pastry Commis, you will assist in the preparation and production of all pastry items, ensuring consistency, quality, and creativity in line with Palm House standards. Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked goods.
• Follow recipes and instructions from senior pastry team members accurately.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry section and storage areas.
• Ensure mise en place is completed ahead of service.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Pastry Chef.
• Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and allergen protocols at all times.
• Support the team in maintaining high kitchen standards and smooth service.
• Participate in daily prep, service, and occasional menu tastings or development.

Skills & Qualifications

• Previous kitchen experience preferred, ideally in a pastry or bakery role.
• Passion for pastry, baking, and dessert presentation.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Good time management and team collaboration skills.
• Basic understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene standards.
• Culinary qualification is a plus but not essential.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods (up to 810 hours per shift).
• Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying of ingredients, trays, and equipment (up to 20 kg/44 lbs).
• Manual dexterity to handle tools, knives, and pastry equipment safely and efficiently.
• Ability to work in a warm environment (near ovens, stoves, etc.).
• Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
