Risk Analyst – Operational Due Diligence
At Brown Brothers Harriman, we believe no job is too big or small for any of us to handle if it helps our clients. We value passionate, committed people who enjoy collaborating with others to find new solutions to complex business challenges. We are looking for the type of person who speaks their mind, truly listens and steps outside their role to add value wherever they can. Someone who is driven to get things done and views obstacles as an exciting challenge that demands a creative solution. Above all, we seek someone who takes great pride in their work and is inspired and motivated by their role in protecting and enhancing our client's financial well-being.
If you are looking for an entrepreneurial environment where you can learn and thrive, Brown Brothers Harriman is the right place for you.
Role Overview
BBH is recruiting for a Risk Analyst – Operational Due Diligence to join our Risk Team. In this role, you will support the operational due diligence (ODD) review process and ongoing monitoring for investment managers approved for the Capital Partners investment platform. The population of managers includes internal and external products structured across multiple fund types, including registered funds, private funds, and separately managed accounts.
Why this role matters: Your work helps ensure we understand how managers operate—not just what they invest in—by assessing the quality of controls, governance, and operational resiliency that protect client capital. You will help surface strengths and gaps early, document conclusions clearly, and support informed decision-making by internal oversight committees.
You will participate in due diligence reviews across a broad set of non-investment topics, including portfolio implementation and monitoring, trading operations, fund accounting and administration, human capital management, regulatory compliance, legal entity and tax risks, information technology, cybersecurity, and business continuity/general business practices. Final due diligence reports are presented to an internal risk oversight committee and may also be presented to other BBH oversight committees and fund boards as needed.
Additional responsibilities include helping create and present committee materials, supporting the investment manager negative news monitoring program, supporting the monthly portfolio compliance process, and contributing to broader risk and business initiatives. As needed, you will also work on risk management efforts outside the ODD program, providing a well-rounded risk management experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare for and participate in on-site and off-site due diligence meetings with investment managers and relevant affiliated entities, as needed
- Manage diligence pipeline and track status of reviews
- Perform detailed reviews of manager documentation (e.g., due diligence questionnaires, offering/deal documents, financial statements, regulatory filings, audits, SOC reports, and policies/procedures)
- Organize data rooms/manager submissions
- Track outstanding items
- Draft clear, well-supported due diligence reports that document scope, testing performed, key risks, mitigating controls, and conclusions for committee review
- Build depth as a subject matter resource across ODD focus areas (operations, compliance, technology/cyber, valuation support processes, business continuity, and vendor oversight)
- Coordinate with partners across BBH (e.g., Investment Research Group, Cyber & Technology, Business Continuity, Controllers, Credit, Office of the General Counsel, Compliance, and Internal Audit) to incorporate functional expertise into reviews and follow-ups
Broader risk management & business initiatives
- Support BBH risk management objectives through research, analysis, documentation, and execution of risk program deliverables
- Partner with the Investment Research Group and Investment Product Group to support the development and implementation of the Capital Partners investment platform, including manager onboarding and oversight
- Contribute to ad hoc risk initiatives and projects that align with your skill set (e.g., process improvements, monitoring enhancements, and reporting materials)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business
- Master's degree and/or CPA, CFA, or CAIA preferred
- 3+ years of relevant experience (e.g., operational due diligence, audit, accounting, fund operations, or investment management compliance)
- Understanding of risk management concepts, control design, and common governance frameworks
- Ability to analyze business processes, identify key operational risks, assess severity, and evaluate mitigating controls
- Sound judgment and ability to synthesize incomplete information into clear conclusions and next steps
- Knowledge of fund structures, investment operations, trading workflows, portfolio compliance, and related systems
- Strong relationship management skills and comfort engaging with external managers and internal partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex topics clearly to senior stakeholders
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Successful candidates typically demonstrate the ability to:
- Enjoy balancing detail with deadlines and can manage multiple reviews in parallel
- Ask thoughtful questions and are comfortable challenging assumptions respectfully
- Take pride in producing high-quality written work products
- Are curious about how investment firms operate and how controls work in practice
- Stay organized and be detail oriented
What We Offer:
- A collaborative environment that enables you to step outside your role to add value wherever you can
- Direct access to clients, information and experts across all business areas around the world
- Opportunities to grow your expertise, take on new challenges, and reinvent yourself—without leaving the firm
- A culture of inclusion that values each employee's unique perspective
- High-quality benefits program emphasizing good health, financial security, and peace of mind
- Rewarding work with the flexibility to enjoy personal and family experiences at every career stage
- Volunteer opportunities to give back to your community and help transform the lives of others
