Shelter Advocate - Weekend Overnight Shift

Kansas City, MO. Rose Brooks Center, a nonprofit domestic violence agency, is currently seeking a full-time Shelter Advocate - Weekend Overnight Shift. The Shelter Advocate is responsible for providing survivor-centered, accessible, and trauma-informed advocacy to residents of Rose Brooks Center. Rose Brooks Center's shelter is a low-barrier and voluntary participation program serving adult and child survivors of domestic violence. Primary responsibilities include providing crisis intervention, safety planning, and advocacy to callers on the hotline and in shelter, as well as facilitating services and activities that promote a healthy, safe, and positive living environment. This position supports the mission and values of the agency and collaborates across programs within a multidisciplinary team and with external systems. This position reports to the Shelter Manager .

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Experience providing excellent customer service and inclusive services to a diverse client group. Strong computer skills (MS office, database system, and other software). Effective verbal and written communication skills. Time management skills and the flexibility and ability to prioritize job tasks. Ability to provide services consistent with Rose Brooks Center's values, beliefs, and philosophies, centered on the principles of trauma-informed care and accessibility. Proven ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team. Valid driver’s license and ability to provide proof of automobile insurance. Preferred: One year or more of experience working in a residential setting or crisis intervention role is highly preferred. Courses or classwork related to human services, social work, or related field. Experience in providing domestic violence advocacy. CPR/First Aid Certification. Knowledge of trauma-informed care and dynamics of domestic violence.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to perform the following with or without a reasonable accommodation: Ability to see a computer screen, read, and complete forms. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to waist level; push, pull, bend, climb, reach, sit, walk, and stand. Ability to transport (drive) residents on occasion. Ability to answer phone calls in a busy environment (hear callers and be responsive). Ability to use standard cleaning supplies. Exposure to animals (primarily dogs and cats). Exposure to contagious illnesses that may be present in an office or shelter environment. Exposure to others’ trauma. Ability to take personal responsibility for the effects of trauma exposure to reduce its negative impact on self and others. Ability to work in a high-intensity, fast-paced environment while multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities.

HOURS:

Full-time, non-exempt; Friday-Monday, 9 p.m.-7 a.m., including occasional holidays.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This non-exempt position starts at $20.00 per hour, with an additional 5% shift differential for hours worked between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. and all hours worked on Saturdays and Sundays and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
