Sr Project Manager – Data Center Electrical Commissioning
This role leads the commissioning and delivery of custom-engineered electrical switchgears for a large-scale data center construction project. You oversee field activities, coordinate with multiple stakeholders, and manage the full project lifecycle from planning and testing through final turnover and warranty. You balance on-site leadership with administrative project management to ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the overall planning, coordination, and execution of field commissioning activities for custom-engineered electrical equipment at a new data center construction site.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the customer, general contractor, third-party testing companies, and internal project and field service teams.
- Participate in and lead meetings with vendors, contractors, and site leadership to align schedules, clarify scope, and resolve issues promptly.
- Develop, manage, and execute punch list strategies, ensuring all deficiencies are tracked, prioritized, and closed in a timely manner.
- Oversee daily planning and monitoring of field activities, including testing, commissioning, and verification of electrical systems and equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including audit records, reports, warranty records, photos, action logs, and all relevant files.
- Review and forecast project budgets, monitor costs, and manage financial aspects of the project, including project controls, cost control, and forecasting.
- Manage contract-related matters, including scope clarifications, changes, and warranty issues, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Coordinate and oversee third-party electrical testing and commissioning activities to ensure they meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, construction schedules, and related technical documents to guide field execution and sequencing.
- Use project management and construction management tools to track progress, manage documentation, and report status to stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and practices on site, including alignment with OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E requirements where applicable.
- Support project controls and reporting by providing accurate ETC (Estimate to Complete) and EAC (Estimate at Completion) forecasting.
- Collaborate closely with field supervision, electrical technicians, and general foremen to align day-to-day work with overall project goals.
- Identify risks, constraints, and issues in the field and implement mitigation strategies to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and recommending process enhancements for future projects.
Skills Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in industrial construction, commissioning, or field supervision.
- 4+ years of experience as a field-based supervisor, site superintendent, or project manager.
- Proven project management experience on complex industrial or data center construction projects.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction schedules.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook for project tracking, communication, and reporting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Experience with construction management, project controls, cost control, and project coordination.
- Experience in industrial electrical power distribution, switchgear, motor control, controls, or electrical commissioning.
- Experience overseeing or performing third-party electrical testing.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to rent and operate a vehicle for travel between work sites.
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and occasional night shifts in a field environment.
Preferred Skills (but not required)
- Experience in data center construction projects.
- Experience as an electrical technician, general foreman, or electrical lead.
- Experience with switchgear, electrical power distribution, motor control, and related industrial systems.
- Familiarity with project controls concepts, including ETC (Estimate to Complete) and EAC (Estimate at Completion) forecasting.
- Experience in field operations for electrical or industrial projects.
- Knowledge of construction management platforms and tools, including Bluebeam.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- NFPA 70E training or certification.
- Experience working on projects involving multiple trades and large-scale commissioning activities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage warranty issues, contract matters, and project documentation in a structured way.

Work Environment
- This role is based on an active construction site for a large data center located near Hubbard, Texas, approximately 30 minutes outside of Waco. You will primarily work on-site at the data center, with occasional travel to subcontractor and testing locations such as Grapevine, Texas, and other regional sites.
- Lodging, per diem, travel expenses, and/or car rentals will be provided.
- The environment includes hundreds of construction trades and various contractors working concurrently, with one data center building complete and additional buildings under construction.
- You collaborate closely with a field service management team that maintains a home base in Houston, Texas.
- The schedule typically runs Monday through Saturday, 10–12 hours per day.
- OT, weekend work, and occasional night work highly likely over an anticipated duration of at least 44 weeks, with strong potential for extension.
- The dress code reflects a typical industrial construction site and includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, and a work shirt, with strict adherence to site safety requirements.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
