Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to assist physicians and licensed practitioners in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, compassionate patient interaction, and the ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images across multiple sonography specialties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, critical thinking, and a commitment to patient-centered care while supporting department quality initiatives and maintaining imaging equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to physician orders and department protocols.
• Prepare and educate patients prior to sonographic examinations to ensure comfort and cooperation.
• Select appropriate transducers, imaging settings, and equipment based on exam requirements.
• Capture and evaluate high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by licensed practitioners.
• Perform abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, thyroid, musculoskeletal, renal, and other ultrasound procedures.
• Document patient history, procedural notes, and diagnostic information accurately in electronic medical records and imaging systems.
• Transfer images correctly to PACS and complete procedure documentation in MEDITECH.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA privacy and security standards.
• Monitor equipment functionality and report malfunctions promptly.
• Follow infection prevention, sterile technique, and biomedical waste disposal procedures.
• Maintain ultrasound room cleanliness, supply inventory, and equipment readiness.
• Assist with orientation and clinical education for radiology and sonography students as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, radiologists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Provide age-appropriate care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Complete quality control checks and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography training program required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of full-time clinical diagnostic ultrasound experience preferred; comprehensive ultrasound experience strongly preferred.
• Eligible for ultrasound certification in required specialty areas.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred

• ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credentials.
• Experience performing vascular, OB/GYN, abdominal, and musculoskeletal ultrasound studies.
• Experience working in a hospital or acute care environment.
• Familiarity with PACS and MEDITECH systems.
