The Counselor reports to the Director of the Counseling Center and is responsible for providing individual and group counseling to students as well as providing crisis intervention and consultation services to students. Additionally, the Counselor will also offer developmental, wellness, and educational programming to students, faculty, and staff. Hours of Availability Background Check Statement

- Provide brief, free and confidential mental health counseling for individuals and groups.
- Maintain client appointments and clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical and professional standards.
- Evaluate programs and client progress.
- Serve in a three-person rotation for on-call for emergency situations.
- Conduct psycho-educational programming and workshops for academic programs and student services.
- Organize on campus programming events (Ex: Alcohol Awareness Week, Safe Spring Break Week, Wellness Fair, Suicide Awareness Walk, etc).
- Responsible for developing small group counseling sessions.
- Refer students to professional counseling agencies, student health center, or hospital when necessary.
- Target at-risk students and provide specialized services.
- Provision of consultation and training of students, faculty, administration, staff and other campus personnel regarding psychological development and behavioral health issues.
- Serve as a member of the Mississippi University for Women Behavioral Intervention Team.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of the Counseling Center.
- Master's degree in Counseling from an accredited program
- Licensed Mental Health Therapist: LMFT, LPC, or LCSW
- Licensed in the state of Mississippi
- Minimum of three years of counseling experience
- Experience in programming and educational workshops and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population within the university community is essential
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive, and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators
- Demonstrated commitment to student service and engagement, with an understanding of and ability to apply a student development perspective
- Also desirable is specialized interest, training and experience working with issues related to depression, anxiety, family functioning, eating disorders, and substance abuse
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive mental health issues with confidentiality and discretion
- Excellent oral and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Possess time-management, planning and organization skills
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Flexible scheduling may be available when possible to accommodate required after-hours work.
