Position Location This second shift position will be located onsite at the Michoud Assembly Facility, New Orleans, Louisiana. Job Overview NSS Safety Specialist is a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being and security of a construction site environment. As a Safety Specialist, you will protect employees, oversee compliance with construction safety regulations, and implement preventative measures to mitigate risks. Responsibilities Administer and support accident prevention programs, safety policies, and training initiatives. Conduct post‑incident investigations in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements. Oversee Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) programs ensuring compliance with NASA, federal, state, and organizational requirements. Conduct surveillance of facilities, contractors, and operational activities. Identify hazardous conditions and recommend appropriate controls. Ensure residual risk acceptance is documented prior to operational start or restart. Perform hazard analyses, safety assessments, and procedure reviews. Participate in ORA, TRR, PRR, and related safety evaluations. Provide technical safety guidance and recommendations to Government representatives. Monitor changes in safety regulations and standards. Advise management on compliance impacts and implement corrective actions. Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning. Conduct ergonomic assessments, job hazard analyses, and system audits. Manage safety programs and improvement initiatives. Develop and maintain safety policies, procedures, and documentation. Evaluate engineering and planning documents for compliance with NASA and regulatory requirements. Support integrated hazard analysis involving NASA Flight hardware and complex systems. Key Responsibilities Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision. Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers. Work independently while communicating and coordinating with other employees and organizations. Comply with all applicable safety‑and‑health rules, regulations, and procedures. Consistently be punctual. Successfully complete all assignments. Maintain regular attendance in accordance with the agreed work‑hour schedule. Work safely and help teammates do the same. Assist supervisors and managers in identifying and mitigating potentially hazardous conditions using JSA/SPA, incident investigations, and safety inspections/audits. Help the organization maintain a safe and healthy workplace. Job Requirements Mandatory Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four or more years of safety management experience. U.S. Citizenship (required to obtain NASA badge). Ability to provide certified birth certificate, passport, or INS citizenship documents on hire date. Strong English communication skills (verbal and written). Valid driver's license. Experience with federal, state, and company safety regulations and policies. Preferred Good organizational and planning skills. Background in safety and health or related field. Excellent communication skills. Attention to detail. Ability to take direction. Ability to operate and service various rotating equipment. Computer proficiency. Ability to work independently while following detailed instructions. Ability to interface with various personnel across a multicultural, team‑oriented environment.
